Buying "ebay" saddles - sizing/template help?!

I recently tried on "the perfect saddle" for my horse which belongs to an aquaintance but is WAY out of my price range. I have found an older model of the same saddle on ebay, which is the right size but much more in my price range and looks to be a good saddle, but it is based at the other end of the country to me so it's well nigh impossible to find a way to try it on my horse.

Part of me is tempted to buy it, try it and re-ebay it if it doesn't fit, but I know I am always the person who that sort of thing doesn't work for and I will probably lose money and be further away from getting the right saddle.

My trainer suggested I try to get the seller to make a template to send up and try against the saddle I know fits well and tried to explain how but I can't get my head round it! Does anyone know the best way of making such a template?? Any other ebay advice saddle buying/sizing welcome!!! Thanks!

You could ask them to measure the saddle across at the same place. Or bend a wire coat hanger into the shape of the saddle and then trace it onto paper and then post it to you. Or phone manufacturer to see if they can help. Hope this helps. Still may not give you exact measurement but it just might help. Ask on here if anyone has the make and size of saddle .

If you think it's the right saddle then buy it on ebay and then resell it if it doesn't in fact fit. Just be sure not to bid over what you really think it is worth. If you lose out there will always be another one. If you end up reselling it then put on a reserve so that you don't lose out - so long as you haven't paid over the odds, you should get your money back.

I think by the time the seller has made a template and sent it to you etc, the ebay ad might be finished!
