Hiya,

In general, When/if you are looking to buy a horse from a dealer are you more suspicious of the things they say than if buying privately?

Or do you always go with an open mind?

Just interested because more of my friends have had bad experiences with dealers than when buying privately, and it makes me unsure about buying/looking at horses for sale with dealers.

Help!

Ive had bad experiences buying from private buyers so now if i want another would go to a dealer as that way you have a legal come back if things go wrong.

I have bought from both dealers and private sellers - a dealer with a good reputation will want to maintain that status so would be unwise to be economical with the truth!

I have found, and this is just my personal experience, that with some private sellers, particularly if it is a pony, that a parent will have enormous pressure from a child wanting their outgrown pony sold very quickly so a new horse can be bought .....

I just think you have to be careful whoever you are buying from, ask lots of questions, be totally honest about your own ability, take someone along with you as well if possible, and get a vetting done.

As with anything in life, there are good and bad, both dealers and private sellers.
