I moved to the Netherlands a year ago and now I'm settled and have found a nice yard near my home I'm starting to look to buy a youngster and get riding again. The only problem with doing this in a whole new area, let alone a new country, is that its very difficult to know who is reputable and who is not. I'm on quite a tight budget and am looking for something between 3-6 either started or not, I don't mind as I'm looking for a project. I'm more interested in jumping rather than dressage horses and have always been a fan of english thoroughbreds but think I'm going to have to move into the warmblood market here as the TBs are few and far between. I'm really not bothered about breeding (which they are obsessed with over here because of all the exports) and tend to judge horses by what is in front of me.

If anyone has any experience of buying or riding in the Netherlands and has any tips to share they would be greatly appreciated. Also, any rebutable breeders or young horses dealers that you know of.

Thank you for any help you can give

PM me if you want...i have alot of friends with vast contacts over there that i may be able to put you in contact with!! most of them are based over there, speak excellent english and are very reputable

I used to live in Holland where abouts have you moved ??
For me the best thing was to take a fluent Dutch speaker with you ther are lots of good people and good horses and i would start with a trainer from your yard. most people involved in horses out there know a lot about breeding and blood lines. Really for your money you are looking for a recreation horse [paard] that can do a bit of everything but that is not a top sport paard this will narrow the search and keep the price down. Start with what and who you know and i am sure you will find something quite readily.
Good magazine is Het Hofslaag [think its spelt like that Dutch has got a bit rusty. you can also join their affiliated ring club group which is the NBVR they will be on the net call them they will speak good english]
