Hi :) just looking for some advice.

Im wanting to buy my very own horse hopefully within the next year possible two as Ive currently got a horse on loan but hes 17 in April and his owners just had a baby so Im expecting her to want him back next year.

What type of horse would suit me... current horse is a tbxid at 16hh I would like something abit bigger as Im quite tall.
How much money to save up and what not.
I dont know what Id like to do with the horse perhaps dressage and show jumping.
What to look out for when looking for a horse to buy.

Just any advice really. :)

I'd say shop around :) See what catches your eye, what suits your ability, what's able to compete to the level you want and how much a horse that ticks all of these boxes would cost.

Then you know how much you need for the horse, but also make sure you've got enough for all the things new horsey is going to need in between buying him & your next pay day! :)

Good luck!!!

Yeah I keep looking around and I think £3000 is going to be my limit. I'm not the most advanced rider but I'm getting there, I'd like one that I could learn more with. Perhaps a 6 or 7 year old so not too young :) Xx

Do you keep the loan horse without input from his owner? I ask because if you don't I would suggest possibly a slightly older horse would be a good idea. When you first become responsible for your own horse, it is a bit like being hit round the back of the head :D

Yeah I just got thrown into the deep end, shes come up once in the last 8 months of having him :) I do what I want with him when I want. I always ask her if I need her advice but apart from that she doesnt have any input. I do want a younger horse though, hmmmm decisions decisions!! Thanks for advice though much appreciated x

Don't be afraid of buying an older horse, my horse (bailey) was my first horse and I brought him when he was 19. He's been there and seen most things so is very forgiving of my riding mistakes, but he's also brought my riding on so much as he's such a naughty boy out hacking!

Obviously if you find a younger horse that's what you want then don't let age put you off :) but younger horses tend to need a more confident experienced rider as they need to learn from you, rather than you learning from them :)
