Venturing back into ownership again after sharing for last 6 years as lovely horse moving a long way away :( and I'm having second thoughts after only one week looking.

God there is some rubbish out there.

People want silly money £5-7k for upside down 'giraffes' that don't even have basic flatwork established. One was nearly £6k, 5 year old ISH but had really bad cow hocks and 3 splints (one very large and tender!).

Realise I've been spoilt with my quality share.

Trying to avoid dealers as most have such bad rep. Any recommendations, in Surrey/Hampshire pls PM me. Thx.

Long shot but....
Looking for 16.2-17.2hh m/w gelding (solid type not dainty ISH) around 8 years old for RC Allrounder - if anyone knows of any good sorts.
5 Star, very loving and knowledgeable home awaits!

Thx.

:D

hiya can you pm me your email ? I know of a really nice horse for sale, ill send his picture to you and his details.

Thanks Cathy

Dealer wise, ClipClop traders get nothing but good, positive feedback, would highly recommend. I got my boy from Chessington Equestrian, don't be put off by first impressions, they really don't know how good their horses are.

Put a wanted ad up on equineadverts.com, you will be inundated as I was with people who are selling for financial reasons so willing to let good horses go at a good price. They seek out buyers rather than advertising to avoid attracting the wrong people and avoid advertising costs.

Just be patient, and you will find Mr Perfect! I did :D

If you were willing to look at something a bit older then I have a lovely horse that fits your requirements (in Surrey too.)

Unfortunately that type and age are what everyone wants so they're like gold dust.

Oh I know I was gutted!!!!!!!!
Turned out it was a bucking, napping bronco on the road.... and had a local reputation for it :( He was so stunning and loving though on the ground)

It is difficult,it always seems fun when friends are doing it but is a nightmare when it's your turn.
I really think that often if the sellers are private they have seriously Rose tinted specs or they hope that all buyers are blind I can never work it out.
You just have to keep at it keep asking everyone horsey you know keep looking at the ads and the web sites.
I picked up my new boy on Saturday and he such a pet a lovely friendly confident happy horse who is a credit to his previous home ...

just keep going and he or she is out there.

That's a shame Achinghips...

I did find a nice horse last week, tried him once, then tried to organise going back with my RI to get his opinion, but he got sold in the meantime...apparently...it was a bit of a weird setup  Had my reservations about him though, so not a huge issue.

Claudiacox - interesting about Chess EC - I am trying a horse there sometime this week.

Yes, wanted advert is probably going to be the next step for me, I've only just started looking and am not in any hurry.

I would look for a 10 or 11 year old. In the grand scheme of things, if you are planning on keeping a horse for many years, it won't make that much difference to you. But an 8 year old is the most fashionable age of horse to buy and I always think will pay 2 or 3 k more for the same horse at 8 as you will at 10.

I agree Mithras - age is not a huge criteria for me, in fact I would prefer something a little older, but will look at younger ones if they're sensible.

Be very very open minded about Chessington. Take someone who really knows their horsey stuff and a trainer to ride them. They showed me mine in a tiny teeny outdoor school with an awful saddle, but we saw something in him. After some decent meals, a haircut and a bigger school to work in, he is incredible! We know the guy who owns it rather well so that helped! Just dont be put off by the people or the place and look past the little things with the horse, ie scraggly mane. Let me know how it goes!

See, I've got the opposite problem!
I'm having trouble finding anyone for my boy who's up for sale - hes a 16.1, 11 year old ISH and I cannot find the right person at all! I'm getting quite a few emails, texts, calls but they're mostly people who havnt read the advert properly!
Hope you find something! Don't dismiss all the adverts - I found my mare from an ad I glanced over two or three time until I decided to go.

Thanks cc, Irish & loopy.

Looked at idhs, they are all either mares or far too young.

Loopy, where are you? Can you pm me a link to your ad if you're in the southeast please.

Someone's already mentionned it but ClipClop Traders get good feedback on here. Have a search and you might feel like giving them a whirl.

Prices are defo dearer round your area though, so if you're prepared to travel, you'll get more for your money.

There is one I know of locally for sale who has been brought on professionally and the person selling him is very genuine. An excerpt from his advert below

"This lovely young horse has a wonderful temperament and is fabulous to do in all ways. He has 17 BD points from very few outings and qualified for the winter regionals where he was placed in the Novice Music. He has a big bold jump and has won 2 unaffiliated events one on an 18 dressage. He is now ready to go and compete BE90 and progress through the grades. He is a superb hunter. A 5* home is required for this fabulous star of the future."

If you want the link to his advert pm me. He won't be cheap but he will be genuine.

Agree Mithras + JennBags
Some 6 years olds are like 3 year olds and others like 12. Old head on young shoulders. Depends what they have done and how they have been brought on :)

Have you looked on the IDHS (GB) website? Might be younger than you ideally want, but they are usually kind and generous souls with no hang ups.

OMG that is so funny!!! My current share owner's said same and I just looked on there and the horse I currently share (with me on board) are featured under the Stud Advertisements.

I ride Heathercombe Father Ted. He's a 16.3hh RID.

Finding something to match him is a very tall order I can tell you!

:D

Good tip tho. Thx.
