Does anybody know the rules regarding travelling to/from or through towns with all these different tier systems in place? I was looking for a new horse but not sure how I'd go about viewing or collection now since I've seen a few people mention on fb that they've been stopped crossing town borders on their way to work and made to prove where and why they were travelling. More importantly my pony is currently out on loan, if she had to come back for any reason would it be ok for me to travel to hire a box and to go and pick her up? She can be a very awkward loader and will become extremely distressed if handled the wrong way so hiring a professional transporter is not an option, I would have to fetch her myself, but is that even allowed?

You can travel for equine welfare purposes, so you will still be ok.

I was going to get my trailer serviced, which means travelling from a tier 2 area to a just bumped up into tier 3 area (Lancs), a round trip of about 100 miles. I’ve put that on hold for now.

Personally I'm not sure going to see a horse to potentially buy is welfare.

Collecting your loan pony is clearly different if that had to happen.

I have seen an awful lot of people on FB justifying why they all need to spend 2 hours a day at their DIY yard because exercise is welfare. IMHO welfare is basic needs and that can be provided by one person / smaller group of people on rotation or by YO if possible.
I just can't believe it is truly essential that everyone does their own horse on a DIY yard but I am sure people can get away with it if they want to.
I yo yo between frustration that some peoples behaviour will lead to ever more stringent rules and acceptance that this is here to stay for years so we might just as well crack on and ignore it.

There seems to be
1. the rules - which are so grey you can justify almost anything
2. what you might get caught doing - which is even softer than the rules as the poor police have no chance of checking even 1% of people
3. what is morally right - if you were hit by a bus someone would see to your horse and it would be fine

Will clarify my above reply to agree with this. Collecting your mare would be ok, but travelling around visiting yards looking at horses to buy in tier 3 is not. Tier 2 is more marginal, but I personally wouldn’t.

I think things are vague at best but as far as I understand it there doesn't seem to be a set rule saying you can't travel to other areas as long as you abide by rules when there no socialising indoors etc ( do yards count as public places). Obviously it's ADVISABLE not to travel to these areas.

Judging by the amount of puppies/horses & ponies sold during the national lockdown earlier this year people are quite happy to disregard the rules. Dealers local to me had the busiest tome in years. I know people who missed out on horses as they wouldn't go and view whilst restrictions in place.

Friend was travelling to yard in Lancashire next week to view a horse ( no stops on way, masks, social distancing and all outdoors) but Lancashire has been plunged into tier 3 today.

One of our local auctions is holding Fell Pony Society Sales is at the end of the month and there are bound to be buyers and sellers there from all over. I don't know how this works within the lockdown.

It's an awkward one, Im ok with postponing my search, I'm in no real rush but my horse is now on his own most of the time since loaning my pony out and the horse I was set to take turned out not to be suitable so I feel guilty, I'm also fed up of constantly having to put our lives on hold and not knowing where we stand from one minute to the next and worrying if I just get on with life then im breaking the law according to bonkers bojo ??‍♀️

You can't go to Wales or Northern Ireland but you can go anywhere in England although travel in a or out of a Tier 3 area is frowned upon but NOT YET illegal. Don't know about Scotland.

See that is what I thought but I've seen a lot of people on fb saying they are being stopped by police coming in and out of warrington (tier 2 I think)to see where they are going and asking for proof (one friend had to tell them the address of her client then they made her ring the client infront of them to confirm she was telling the truth!) And if the people in your car do infact live with you (I thought people could car share to and for work ??‍♀️) it's like something out ofthe handmaids tale!

Well its definitely says this on the governments own website. Travelling in and out of tier 3 is discouraged but NOT illegal....yet

The trouble is the police don't necessarily understand the rules because they're different everywhere for example Tier 3 in Liverpool is different to tier 3 in Lancashire. Its all a nonsense.

Does anyone know if farriers will be affected?

Mine comes from over the border in Lancashire.

I'm assuming travelling for work purposes is ok...?

Boris has just said in questions that single parents who don't live with their kids should consider not seeing them if they are in different tiers

If people are being asked not to see their kids - I don't think we can make a fuss about not seeing our horses (or indeed going to buy new horses) - Its truly awful but if behaviour doesn't change we'll be in and out of lockdown for far too long.

Single parents living in different areas to children will face restrictions, PM says
Earlier, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the coronavirus press briefing that single parents living in different counties to their children would face restrictions on seeing them if the child's area went into heightened coronavirus restrictions.
Christopher, who lives in Margate, Kent, while his son lives in Essex, asked the prime minister at the Downing Street press conference if they could still see each other.
Mr Johnson told him: "Christopher I think the guidance, alas, is that - you should go on the website obviously and check - but when places go into a higher tier from the basic medium then there are restrictions on household contact, alas.
"So depending on how you define your household you may find there may be restrictions."

Really? Your happy not to see your horse? So who do you expect will take care of it if you dont? I absolutely will not be stopped from seeing mine under any circumstances.

Is that really correct? Even when the whole country was on full lockdown separated parents could still see their children, Boris really is asking for riots now the vile pig

I need to find a pony but just don’t feel the enthusiasm, nor do I really have the time - work is full on and going to look at a pony means the ones I have don’t get ridden. I am keeping an eye out and hoping something comes up locally!

As others said, fine to go and get the loan pony if needed.

Just heard on the radio, people from locked down areas, ie Liverpool will not be allowed into Wales from this weekend
People from lock down ie tier 3 and tier 2 are no longer allowed to travel into wales, now only those in tier 1 , and then only if the welsh area is not in additional restrictions

It sucks, but I don't think going to look for a new horse is morally ok- but collecting your horse from loan would be as it's for welfare reasons.

Mine is on DIY but there are people at the yard who do services, and I think if circumstances dictated, I'd be happy to accept them bringing in and turning out for a short period but not indefinitely- I'd want to confirm he was ok for myself at some point!
