Does anyone know where I might buy small quantities (1 to 2 kg) of pony- friendly grass seed, preferably online? All I can find is 15 kg sacks but I only have a few bare patches to repair. My paddocks are on chalk and quite meadowy so I'd like something like the pony paddock mixes you can get with timothy and fescues - prefer no ryegrass as there are a few patches of this already and it's awful stuff.

Scats, mole valley etc all sell 1/2 and 1 acre bags of pony paddock seed mix. It comes in a purple bag and from memory is £15 for the smaller bag, and £30 for the larger.

Thanks to all for replies. I have now found somewhere ("Cotswold Seeds Direct") that sells non- ryegrass mixes by the kilo rather than the acre - an acre is about 15 kilos and seems to cost between £50 and £80 depending on the supplier.

I have also learned that it is too late in the year to sow herbs so I went for the non-herb mix. The herbs will just have to make their own way across from the rest of the field next year.
