Bit of a strange question but would you ever buy a saddle with no known brand.

I have been searcing for a new saddle for my horse for ages as he is hard to fit. A friend has 4 saddles for sale as her horse has died and they are the right width for my horse.

When looking I have been looking at only 'branded' tack, such as Ideals, Jefferies, GFS etc. as I know what I am buying...but these saddles have no brand at all. 2 are handmade by a local saddler and one is unknown but bought from a master saddler last year. All are said to be english leather though.

Would you buy a saddle you didnt know the name of. Am I just being a snob or are other saddles just as good as the branded types?

Also one is a dressage/working hunter style. Would you buy this style of saddle for everyday use?

depends on the saddle, I'm a great fan of old, hand made saddles some are serious works of art and seem to fit better than the modern saddles... then some unamed saddles are cheap tatt that have been thrown together using cheap foreign leather... not a lot of help I know. But if it fitted my horse and was english leather and comfy and in good condition I'd look at anything

Ok, i am no saddle expert but if the saddle is well made and safe then i see no reason why you should discount it just as it has no make. Also i would not buy a dressage saddle for everyday use as i feel they are just not suitable and if you wanted to jump you may struggle. But this is just IMO!!

Well I just sold a saddle with no makers name on it and the buyer was very happy.I use a English leather saddle with no makers name too.Depends on the saddle.Look on ebay.

Yes, I would buy unbranded but ONLY if i'd seen it in the flesh, as I know what a good quality saddle looks like, and what to look out for. I wouldn't even concider buying unbrander over the internet. I also only buy newer, well known saddles off places like ebay because a) they're likely to be in better condition (straight tree etc) and b) they are easily resellable if they don't fit.
