I am looking for a pony/small horse for my daughter to show. She is outgrowing her current pony, who we were very lucky to find locally. However all the ads are for down South which makes it totally impractical for me with three kids and all the animals at home to look after, to travel serious distances to view. Has anyone got any experinces of buying unseen? Even if we did make the trip (s) its still an on the spot decision, couldn't really go back for another look! We would look at a youngster or an older pony. Are there reputable places to buy from?

Have you spoken to your local pony club or riding club to see what ponies might be for sale that they know of?

I certainly wouldn't buy one unsean for my child.

I might take a gamble (and have) of buying something cheap for myself but there is no way on this earth I'd buy something unseen for a child.

If you see something you like down south, and after speaking to the owners extensively about it you think it might be the one, then at the very minimum you should find an independant person local to the pony to give you a second opinion before travelling down to try and collect.
