Not a result to write home about, other than the fact it was the first time Buzz and I have made it out to a competition since Cancergate. Obviously we chose Oldencraig for its low key atmosphere and low competition standard :p
He's still weak as he lost a huge amount of muscle through the radiotherapy and time off, and he's only been back in a bit for three weeks, but he's been going sweetly on the flat and really enjoying our outings for SJ schooling so thought it was worth a bash at Prelim.
The class was quite large for an unaffiliated, and nearly every other horse in the class had an Oldencraig prefix - no pressure then! He warmed up very very sweetly - at one stage there were 9 horses in the warm up, and Buzz was one of the smallest at 17.1hh!
The test itself was as expected - we're both very ring-rusty and not very fit, but again he tried his socks off and did everything I asked. It was marked at 61% with unsurprising comments about consistency of contact. Very pleased with him :)

Whilst waiting for the score and sheet we watched the other member of Team Toy Story - Woody - smash the novice to win on 69% (nice result for a very thoroughbred eventer against a class of all warmbloods :D)

The day took a turn for a worse with the lorry breaking down on the M25 on the way home....that was fun. After half an hour of HGVs undertaking us on the hard shoulder, the nice chaps at the Highways Agency turned up and shut the slip road for us. Petrifying! Horses were none the wiser and carried on demolishing haynets.

Next plan is a XC clinic next weekend then off to the RVC for next round of CTs to find out what the evil cancer is up to. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy every minute!

I'm sure the score is a complete irrelevance. Just being able to go out competing has to be like winning the nationals for you :)
Shame about the lorry.

I must have missed your last few updates as I don't remember seeing that you were back on board after Buzz' time in hospital - that's fantastic news though! He is looking great and ever so happy, you must be so proud of him :). Enjoy the XC clinic and everything crossed that the next set of CT scans don't reveal anything too sinister and you can carry on enjoying every minute.

I'm so happy for you! He is so cute and looks really pleased to be out partying again.

****** about the horsebox though :(

Ah yes, got the go ahead to ride a couple of months ago :) The cancer is still there at the moment but continuing to shrink - had the exciting development from the vet three weeks ago that he is able to manage hay now because the tumour has receded off of the lower teeth, giving him the ability to grind again.
I won't know anything further until the CT, which I'm looking forward to and dreading in equal measure.

Am surprised to see him bitted if he is having the contact issues you say tbh. He's looking well though and hopefully he can still manage some forms of treats!

Ah ok should have explained that better - contact issues not because of the mouth problem, but because he's still weak he struggles to carry himself in a consistent outline - he's the same bitless. Very reminiscent of when I first got him as a gangly 5 year old!

What excellent news that Buzz is doing well and you're having a bit of well deserved fun together. Everything crossed for his next scan. What rubbish about the lorry, we had as 'horsebox from Hell' a few years ago that broke down on nearly every motorway in the Midlands and I know how frightening it is. What a good boy he is! Sending him a virtual bucket full of apples :)

So very pleased to read this. Do hope its good news at RVC. You have done wonders with him and have been so brave, I know what its like my boy is in Bell Equine critically ill with colitis, enteritis and peritonitis. He's only 6 years old but he is making steps in the right direction. So I know what you have been through.

Wonderful and very brave to go to Oldencraig for your 'low key' return to the outside world! Horrible to break down though :-(

Fingers crossed for CT

Best of luck for your boy. Bell is an excellent practice so I'm sure he's in the best hands and will be on the mend very soon.

I just love Buzz! Everyone luvs a fighter and your attitude of living to the max and enjoying your wonderful horse is a real insperation :)
Can't wait for the x-country update.
