Hi there, I've just join byrds a few months ago I'm currently competing novice and working elementary and above at home. My dreams would is to get on U21's A team and compete abroad (got to think big hahaha!). I get quite nervous at shows so i decided to make my life easier and try out for the C squad which is basically prelim level, I got in yay but was told i couldn't compete for the C squad as to put in simply i was too good. Now I'm stuck in the C squad not being able to do anything and cant move up until another squadding day which isnt till end of winter, I've missed out on all the inter byrds competitions now :(. I was just wondering if anyone is or has been in byrds and whether its worth sticking with or just easier to do without them and just the support from my trainer? Also what your opinion of Byrds anyway? Good? Bad?

I did BYRDS at an older age (when i was 24 did the BYRDs Nationals etc) So i only had a couple of years with BYRDs training. I really enjoyed it though and i found all the training days really helpful.

I now teach someone who has just represented GB for BYRDs at the International in Scotland, shes 12years old. She only joined this year and shes doing fantastically (came 22nd out of 50 at the International). She has a super time and really enjoys all the training that goes with it.

I am not sure re the squadding rules, but if i was you I would stick with it, its definitely worth it in the long run and gives you a really good stepping stone into the world of dressage IMO. Dont forget you also have things like the Talent Spotting days etc which are great fun too.

Good luck :)

This is going to sound like a silly question but do you have to apply at the beginning of the year? Or could, I for example, send off an application form now? :)

Thank you Tempi I completely forgot about the talent spotting days maybe I wont give up to soon then :). I may be worrying about nothing but i was wondering if the reason they haven't moved me up or been easy to get a hold of lately is because I told them about a spinal operation I had done four years ago ( doesn't effect me in one way still sit straight) and I have to have a operation on my jaw next year? My friend said byrds can be quite like that if there's something or been something wrong with the rider or the horse they're not interested. I could be completely wrong on that but its worth putting it out there. And to measles its fine to join mid year but unfortunately you will have to pay for the entire year they don't to half, I tired.
