I was looking on the BD website and came across the Talent Spotting competitions, has anyone got any experiance of these, what sort of level you have to be riding at and any other things i should know about, im nothing special riding but do you reckon i could go along and have a go or is it quite "posh" lol.

Thanks very much and sorry for rambling post

Its only a novice test. You need to ride it on your horse, then swap horses with someone else, and have a lesson on their horse..

It is good but you need to go somewhere busy as it is generally better run!

Hi ,
These selection days are a really good day and even if you dont get throught to the final you will meet some really nice people get some good instruction and learn a lot.
You really need to know some of the 'dressage theory'as after you have ridden there is a questions session so that the trainer can see or judge how much theory you have and how you apply that knowledge.so things like the'scales of training, what the foot fall for the different gaits are and what effect different exercises have and why.
You dont need to have the 'poshest' pony its about you and how you take training and how aware of your influence.
Go for it its such a good day and everyone will be lovely.

Go for it!

As partoow says, even if you don't get through to the next round, you'll learn a lot.

You'll need to know the scales of training inside out and back to front and be ready to talk about the swap horses you've ridden. How did they go, what exercises etc. you'd use to improve their way of going ........

The Talent Spotting test is a fiddly test but as bbmat says, it is only Novice level with some optional extras such as walk pirouettes.

i did the talent spotting last year, depending on how old you are you get put into groups accordingly. Like what has been said you ride a test on your horse. Then you have a short lesson in a group (normally of 2-3 oryou) working on your position and talking about things and how your test went. Make sure you learn your scales of training as they are really hot on it! You then swap horses for about 15mins and after that you have to talk about the horse, how it went, what you could do to improve its way of going etc.

You can get an information pack from BD, there is info on their website about it.
