More than 50 animals have been recovered in a joint operation from CAARS animal rescue near Wolverhampton. Concerns for the animals’ welfare had been raised by the public.

Tuesday’s raid was carried out by Staffordshire Police with council, veterinary, RSPCA and dog handling teams. South Staffordshire Council is leading an investigation.

We really need more legislation on 'sanctuaries' /'rescues' to stop things like this happening - that any Tom dick or Harry can put an ad on Preloved calling themselves a rescue is just not good. In a way it needs to be a protected title somehow but I have no idea how.

People really need to know their limits with animals (numbers). Yes, seeing animals neglected is horrid and having to turn pets away is hard but it is for the best of everyone sometimes.

There is a local cat rescue to me (you may know of them TP) who started with the best of intentions but are constantly begging for funds. They do some good stuff, but on more than one occasion have spent thousands on treating sick feral kittens who don't survive, when realistically the kindest thing would be pts. I think the local vets have probably run out of compassion so the rescue use a practice about half an hour away and are constant asking for volunteers to take cats to said vets, offering 35 p a mile expenses. It's crazy.

I agree with you but don't know the answer. It's a difficult one.
At one end you've got a small number of cynical, self serving people who run a "charity" that's just there so they can live of the "expenses"; at the other extreme you've got lovely, well-meaning animal hoarders who have mental health issues, or are just too sentimental to be any practical use. How would you legislate for either end but leave alone the mass of wonderful, useful ones in the middle ?

Agreed, there is a local one to me that animals probably need rescuing from rather than taking to, these places seem to end up with almost groupie like followers who defend them at all costs
