I've recently had saddler out and got a new thorowgood T4 High withers saddle for my old boy (we only had choice of 2 saddles, he wasn't easy to fit!). When I tried the two saddles the saddler tried Ted with a wintec Cair girth.
My poor Ted had a terrible accident as a baby and has massive scar tissue on his side where the girth sits- he somehow got stabbed by an electric fence post, only just missing his heart by an inch. He therefore dislikes having his girth done up as its probably still sensitive there even though the accident was 17 years ago.
The saddler suggested the cair girth might be more comfortable- he didn't attempt to bite or swish tail when we tried the cair girth.
When I asked how much the wintec cair girth was, I was shocked to hear it was £125 given it's not leather. I am happy to pay that much for it if it makes him more comfortable but OH will go nuts as just bought saddle and the girth is a third of saddle price.
So wondered if you would recommend cair girths?
Feel I need to provide OH with evidence for purchasing a more expensive type of girth, as it's coming up to xmas. Family refuse to buy me anything horse related. They don't seem to understand that I would prefer stuff for Ted!
