Hi all, recently bought a new bates saddle but have noticed it is starting to sit to the right :( He is rather 'rotund' and has quite low withers anyway so that probaby isn't helping, but as he is rather round :o I tend to use a girth with elastic at one end for ease of fastening. The elastic is on the left hand side. Saddler coming out on Friday so will see if it needs flock or anything adjusted, but could it be the girth?

I had saddle slipping problems with my broad Section D mare - even with a very expensive, made to measure saddle. I also bought a (recommended) Sports Medicine girth elasticated both sides. I have solved the problem by using a synthetic girth with no elastic and girthing up in stages, checking from behind that the saddle is level, having someone hold the offside stirrup whist I mount (off a block) and ensuring the girth is a tight as poss. before starting work. All a bit of a faff but it works and I think it comes with the territory of having a rotund horse even if it is not overweight. But do get your saddle checked for fit anyway.

my saddler told me not to use elastic as it works against the air panels, causing it to move.

he said to use a non elasticated girth to stop it moving around. my saddle is also fitted with point straps though to make it more secure.
