I've been having real issues with saddles for Flash, although the width of his saddle was right it was rocking slightly on his back when it was just placed on him, and so we thought it wasn't fitting and would need to change saddles. However, having put a bit more thought into it, I figured surely you can adjust cair pannels? Just been looking at the internet (work is not particularly fascinating today!) it seems that you actually have to sit on the saddle to check fitting as the air spreads to fit the back when weight bearing. Admittedly, Flash goes very nicely in the saddle, and despite trying a fair few neither of us have seemed quite as happy as we are in our saddle. Could I be right in thinking that the saddle is OK after all and it may simply be the fact that you can't tell by just placing cair saddles on the back??? Thinking about it now it does sort of make sense, but I'm no saddle expert and both saddlers I've had to check haven't really been familiar with cair pannels. Can anyone shed any light on this for me, I'm a little confused as you may guess from all my rambling saddle posts!! Any help very much appreciated!

You are right, you do have to sit on a saddle with Cair to allow your weight to distribute the air in the panels.

I don't think Cair is adjustable, but I could be wrong.

It certainly doesn't 'rock' when I'm sitting on it, and stupidly it never really occurred to me about the air being distributed once my weight is on it...

i think cair is adjustable by a saddler, its the same technology as Flair, just from a different manufacturer.

it sounds to me like the saddle probably is right - you do need to be inthe saddle to fit cair/flair panels.

If it appears to fit, he goes well in it, and you like it then I can see no reason to change at the moment!

wahoo! That really has made my day! He had his back done and they said there were no problems at all, so there's nothing pointing to me being a cruel mum and using a damaging saddle there, I think I'm just so paranoid after having a horse with back problems and not wanting to risk Flash getting them!

Cair isnt adjustable in that it cant be pumped up like flair.

If you and horsey are happy with the fit when you ride in it then i wouldnt bother trying to mess around with it.

I think I'd just like a little more clearance for beasties high withers. On the website it says.....

The CAIR® Panel Insert System offers a range of inserts that can be added to the panel of your saddle, above the CAIR® Air Panels. The CAIR® Air Panels then remain in contact with your horse's back, whilst the inserts increase the depth of the saddle panel where you need additional height. Alterations can be made to the saddle by your retailer without hesitation, and can be monitored and changed over time without concern of affecting the performance of your saddle.

So it seems it can be adjusted a bit, but I don't seem to be able to find anyone that can do it
