Just got home from being out a couple of hours. Pup been in her crate, all normal. Got back and she went straight out for a long wee. Gave her her tea, wolfed down, then taken outside for toilet. She spent a good ten mins wandering round and having tiny wee's in lots of places...she looked uncomfortable, and although it was cystitis-esque.

She came in and within 5 mins she did a tiny wee in the living room. Straight out again and she was doing mini wees everywhere again. Waited until she wanted to come in and now she's playing with toys in front of the fire...

Ideas??

My parents 4 month old lab puppy did something very similar, a trip to the vet with a sample of wee and they gave her some special tablets to put on her dinner ( similar to cranberry i think) and a course of antibiotics cleared it up straight away. Apparently cystitus in puppys is quite common. Fingers crossed it is as simple for you as it was for them.

Young and old dog are more likely to get Cystitis by lying in even very little draught with their rumps for some time. So it is a possible cause and it doesn't at all need to indicate that she will be prone to such problems in the future.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

one of my bitches was prone to cystitis when she was younger. she hasnt *touch wood* had a bout for over a year now. similar symtoms to this, i would get her to the vet 2mrw. we found that our bitch coped a lot better with no dry food in her diet, which may be worth considering if it proves to be cystitis. hope she better soon x

not really, if she is really uncomfortable you could stomach the vet bill for an out of hours though, i think i did this once with my girl. you can give her cranberry juice if she will drink it, but its not going to have any immediate effect. sorry

cyctitis requires antibiotics, so if this is what it is, gonna require vets! (sorry!)
id say either: let her out for a long time prior to bed and see if she gets most of it out of her system, or line the crate for bed with newspaper to make the morning a bit easier! coz I can't think of any quick cures for a short term! (sorry!)
give her cuddles! sure she needs those tho!

If it is cystitis, I'm going give you what might sound as a very weird advice since you want your sleep, make her drink if you can. A dog should drink about 3 centilitres per kilogram body weight a day, so f. ex. if you give her dry food, pour some water over it just before giving her the food. Making her drink more sort of blends out the bacterias in her bladder and can help preventing making the cystitis get worse than it is (again, if that is what it is).

Cranberries capsules does work, as SilverSkye said, and they work better if they haven't had cystitis for long, but if it would have any affect already to tonight I don't now.

I would maybe suggest putting newspapers on the floor and encourage her to try and pee on them and hope she remembers it if she needs out during the night (she is young and one or even two days using newspapers wont spoil the house-training forever), and she might actually get a decent nights sleep, the morning might just start a little earlier than normal...

{{{Get well soon}}} wishes to Millie.

Thanks for your replies. She's just wolfed down her supper and we've been out for a poo and many wees. She's finally settled down to sleep now. Think I might sleep downstairs tonight. We normally take the crate upstairs and she sleeps in that...my OH is shattered as he does most of the early morning get ups at 5am so might just all stay downstairs tonight...Will see how she gets on in an hour or so.

, we humans can of course, soak in the bath to ease it, or drink gallons of water....for her as Lucy suggests, it will some Anti b's, it sounds as though she can settled though, off to the vets with a fresh sample she goes

Well, have followed normal bed routine and I'm in bed and Millie is in her crate. Ran out of newspaper, so have put an old towel in there. Don't think she'll wee in there though so think I might be up and down all night.

Yes, we managed to get an appointment first thing. Vet squeezed her bladder, cue pee all over the table and floor. Dipstcked it and a little bit of blood. Cystitis diagnosed.

Injection of synulox and a 5 day course of syn tabs.

She was sleepy, but seems better now. Been out for a wee and no straining. One wee and done.

Am quite pleased. I said to OH it would cystitis and that synulox would be used....and for £45 I was right!

Already back to one wee and done, no wonder you feel pleased

.

It's a relief when their problems are relatively easily solved, ill puppies really awakens my maternity instincts, not that I always think it's in the puppies best interest for me to give in to those feelings, but they are there and they're hard to resist.
