Many of you know when I started sixth form I put Gracie out on loan with view to buy to a yard member at the beginning of October. Last friday I recieved a text form the loan owner saying that they were moving back to Sussex/Kent and the plan was to move Gracie down with one of her other horses (as they're apparently in love). I replied to the text message saying I wasn't keen on Gracie being moved until I had recieved her passport (they had had her passport to get her vaccinations etc up to date but I had still not had it back off of them) also I wanted a deposit to be paid. (As the loanee had said to me and my dad about a month before this that they'd pay a deposit on Gracie before they moved back to Sussex/Kent.) Anyway, the loanee did not reply to my text message. Sunday came and I decided to call the loan owner and her partner. No-one answered the phone and I still hadn't recieved a reply to my text message. I then decided to ring my yard owner and find out if she had taken Gracie without my permission. My yard owner said that they had and that they had left very early that morning. I took a trip upto the yard myself and looked around incase any of mine and Gracie's belongings were around. There was 2 of Gracie's outdoor rugs left in her stable and her neckcover. I then realised that they had also left one of my outdoor rugs out in the rain covering some of there household belongings which were left by the side of the stables. I then found another rug that was chucked on the fire (my yard owners found it there, they had put a note on the whiteboard asking if it had belonged to anyone but no-one claimed it was theres so it was covering some wood outside.) There was also an old saddle of mine chucked on top of the lockers in the tackroom, some brushes belonging to me chucked under the lockers, some of my lunging equipment left outside, feed bins and buckets left out. Still no reply by this time, I decieded i'd call the police and see what they could do about the situation. They took my details and my yard owners details and said that an officer would be out to see us. We waited around most of the day with no sign of the officer, I decided to call and see when someone would be out. They said that they'd be in contact with me shortly so I left the yard and went home. Around about 5.30pm the police rang and basically said they were not able to do anything about the situation as there had been an agreement between me and the woman that she was able to have Gracie on loan for a year. (Unless she purchased her during that year.) I tried explainging to them that on the contract it say's I must have access to Gracie at all times and as they have not forwarded me an address they've broken the contract. The officer wouldn't accept this and said that she'd send a police officer around in the next few days. 2 days later I recieved a phone call from the police who gave me some advice on what to do. We found out the number for the address that was forwarded to us with where they're living and rang several times. My dad rang a few times, once they answered and said they wern't in and then every other time he rang there wasn't any answer. The same when I rang, once they answered and said they wern't in and the rest no-ones answeed. I've rang there mobiles, so has my sister and yard owner. We've left messages with them but still no reply. My sister has also rang the womans daughter and has asked her twice now to find out the address off of her mother to contact me but I still havent heard anything. My dad's girlfriend had also contacted Kent police that day and the advice they gave was to send a letter recorded delivery to the address that the woman had forwared to me to where they were going to be living (this had to be sent recorded delivery so we were able to know if they recieved the letter or not.) In the letter we had to state that they'd broken the contract and we wanted Gracie, her passport and all her belongings returned to me by next saturday. If they do not return her or contact me by the set time given we're able to get them done for theft. My yard owners been in touch with me everyday since sunday and has been trying to contact the people but hasnt had much luck until today. My yard owners called every number we've had from them, including the womans mums, daughter, husband and the hubands mums (as this is where they are supposed to be living.) Yesterday the husband of the woman came down to pick up some of there houshold belongings as they had been kicked out of there house in Cinderford and was living at the yard in a caravan for a week or so. The yard owner was questioning the husband about where Gracie is, he didnt really give much of a response apart from saying "oh I cant remmber the name of the place. It's near Hickstead though." My yard owners been on to Sussex and Kent Horsewatch and they're supposed to be emailing every yard within the area to find out where she is. The letter was posted yesterday so should have got to them today. Havent heard anything so far apart from my yard owner recieved a text message off of the woman telling her to stop herasing (sp) her mother and her daughter. My yard owner replied to the text saying she'll not stop herasing them until she contacts me.

Just wondered if anyone has seen her around the Sussex/Kent area or even is anyone at the same yard?

Anyone with any information please dont hesitate to contact me..!! Thankyou.

We were going to drive down to the address but still they might refuse to take us to where she is.
They're had her on loan since the beginning of October so not long at all.
I had just started sixth form so was really busy with all my school work and with winter just around the corner I knew it would be getting dark by 4 and I dont get home from sixth form until 4.45pm/5.00pm, also have to ch my bus for 7.20am so by the end of the day i'm shattered. She was up for sale as I was just going to have a break from horses alltogether and concentrate on getting my education sorted and stand on my own two feet for a bit. These people were at the yard I was at with 4 other horses of their own and asked about having Gracie on loan with view to buy. At the time for me this was ideal so I agreed to this etc but now it's just messed up

Once she's back she'll be back with me for good. She'll NEVER be going out on loan again that's for sure..!!

Christ i really feel for you and the worry you are going through. I can't believe the police can not inforce some action. I really do hope you get her back safe & sound. It sounds to me as if these people couldn;t give a toss about you or your families feelings.

Fingers crossed for you and keep us posted how you get on

GOOD LUCK

So sorry to hear of your plight. Have you checked that the letter has been received. If you look on your receipt you find a website where you can check this. I'd strongly advise that you do this. It also shows you who signed for the letter.
I wish you all the luck in the world.

Will up-date about the letter once I know.

Maybe if you make a poster up, we could all send out a few emails for you to local places and see if they will put the posters for you??

worth a try, it worked for us before when finding another stolen horse

Thanks for that idea.

I dont actually have publisher or word to make a poster at home so it'll have to be done at school.

I'll try and get one made by the end of the week in my free periods and will post it

I found out off my dad that the letter has deffinately been sent to them but neither me, my dad or my yard owner has heard anything from them. In the letter it said that they were supposed to have retunred Gracie by today but I havent heard anything from my yard owner to say she's back at the yard or anything from them.

Apparently, the postcode they gave me doesnt fit the road that of the address that they gave me so i'm not sure if they would have recieved the letter or not?! We found a telephone number for them 2 weeks ago for the address and when we rang they said that Mark (Annettes husband) wasn't in so they must live there? Or it's just a conincidence that someone else called Mark was living there.

I have also just found out that the person that they rented the house off down my way is owed thousands of pounds for unpaid bills etc so he's also looking for them.

I've contaced WPCS and informed them about the situation.

Going to ring the police man that's dealing with my case and see what he has to say.

Will update once I know more.

Thanks for that other website too. Will get her on there as well..!!

Check your house insurance to see if you are covered for legal fees. You will probably get free legal advice even if not covered for legal fees.

Have you registered her as stolen e.g. farmkey so they can't sell her on?

Check what horse charities operate in the area, they might visit on your behalf.

You said that you were willing to travel to the address, but were worried that they may still refuse to see you. If I were you I would go to the address that you have and resist the urge to speak to them, Just wait till they go to do the horses, once they have left the yard walk in with copy of contract (incase questioned) catch horse walk away with horse. Load horse, drive home. job done.
I am sick of hearing about stories like this whereby people are treated like mugs and taken for a ride, sod the 'right channels' you have every right to take your horse back, the contract has been broken. Also contact defra to have a new passport issued to you.

Some people may say that my suggestions are not 'very helpful' but that is exactly what i would do, they seem prone to doing 'moonlight flits' and you do not want to risk completley losing any idea of where they may be. Go and take back what is yours.

I have been following this story since it first appeared and have been having difficulty logging on to this forum. You mentioned that Gracie may be located in 'Sussex' where I an based!!!!!! Do please 'pm' me' and I hope that I can help in anyway. Another suggestion is perhaps contact local riding clubs, bridleway clubs etc - I have some contacts for these if needed. PLEASE COME BACK TO ME.
