My 14 yo Belgian WB mare is unclipped, she usually lives out during day and in at night but has been kept in the last fe days due to severe weather (thunder and snow storms!) when she is in she is wearing a medium (200g) stable rug with fleece (no neck) underneath, and when she is out she has been wearing a lightweight full neck with the 200g stable rug undreneath. I have just ordered a full neck turnout 340g for her but im beginning to think it might be too heavy for her, maybe i could just put it on her at night in the stable? i will try it on her and see (thats if it ever arrives- everything has ground to a halt here!) id be interested what other folks braving the scottish weather are putting on their horses....

jays unclipped and wearing HW combo with a MW half neck over the top, he gets cold and drops weight quickly, if this weather continues he will get more added, we have about 2 foot of snow at the yard just now and hes out 24/7
fizz is wearing 2 MWs until i can get to the yard with her HW combo, yes shes a sec a but she doesnt do cold.

My old boy has a heavyweight Fal pro but I think my mare is just in a medium weight and they both live out 24/7 and doing ok - warm as toast when you put your hands in underneath.

My girl is unclipped lives out 24/7, she is in a mw rug, she's an ish. She doesn't feel the cold much so dont need to rug her up. I actually can't get up to the yard today, wasnt there yesterday either, cause the snow is so bad. YO is feeding her and says shes fine having a ball in the snow lol

Mine, both unclipped are in HWs- they live out although they do have 24/7 access to their stable(s). It is a tad windy here in addition to the snow so they do need that wee bit extra.
If it stays dry they may go rug free for a few hours to have a good roll and blow some cobwebs away :)

My mare has a trace clip and is out through the day 7am-6pm in 100gm full neck rug, in at night and in a fleece, my yearling cob is naked:o
This is my one chance of the year to get weight off her, although nothing seems to be shifting yet:o

Of the 7 horses only two are rugged (all live out 24/7). Rest are toasty warm in thier own winter wollies. Other one doesn't actually NEED a rug (and is in fact colder with it on!) the other is a big wimp and feels the cold but he's only in a MW full neck.

They always seem to be colder standing in a stable - the only time Kalli gets cold is stood is a stable - out in the field naked she's perfectly happy.

Mine both live out and i changed them up to heavyweights on Saturday, not happy about it as it's so early but it was so cold and we still have snow. My youngster has a full neck combo as he is in work and my 26yo is in a heavyweight Rambo half neck, he seems warm though as he has such a good winter coat!!

the exmoors are naked and out 24/7, my lusitano is on boxrest, unclipped and in an amigo medium weight at night and a heavyweight fleece during the day. they could all stand to lose a little padding :)

2-3 feet of snow here, horses out for the morning then in the rest of the time as no shelter in the fields.

Fatty young haflinger is naked! gotta drop those pounds and she has hay which is all she cares about and is never rugged so has a lovely thick coat.

Older IDxTB more delicate chap has a LW amigo turnout, think it's 200gm when turned out. Indoors he has a MW John Whitaker rug which fits his toilet block physique like a glove and he is never cold in it, tho it helps that they are in a mini barn so when we get very severe weather the outside windows can be closed and they can still see through the windows cut into the top opening, and still look over their internal stable doors and make faces at one another....

I think horses are more likely to get chilled in the stable than the field providing they have hay and water in the field and if they need it something waterproof on just to keep the chill off. Very oldies are different of course. As a general rule I would rather my horse was a little too cool than he was too hot.

My 19 year old Belgian WB gelding (fully clipped - though growing back) is in his HW Rambo Wug during the day and a 200g under rug and 200g full neck stable rug at night.

He seems fine

:)

Both my boys have 'bibs' and rain sheets on. They stay out 24/7 and have ad lib hay. My girlie and foal (5 months) have no rugs, ad lib hay and a shelter. They are all native crosses and never see a stable :) They are all 'ahem cough cough' slightly overweight We are in the north east.

My thoroughbred (unclipped) is out 9-3 and has a heavy weight with neck, and has a heavy stable rug on at night.

If it gets worse he will be getting a med weight stable rug put under his outdoor so he can still go out and stretch his legs!

Mine are out 24/7 (with permanent access to open stables, hay etc.). The horse in my siggy is turned away at the moment on his annual break so he's unclipped (looks very fuzzy!), he's in a HW Weatherbeeta full neck. May put on a 200g liner tomorrow though as weather meant to get even worse (even after the blizzards all day?!). My 2 ponies are natives so dont need much - one is in a high neck Wug, the other is in a MW turnout, just to keep them dry.

Mine are in the shed tonight ( communal stable 40mx30m) and have Weatherbeeta Arions on which I think are about 300gram, toasty warm, ad lib hay and fibre based feed and they are like bugs in rugs!

Kia has a full clip for showing and convenience and he is in a 240 combo with a 450g standard over the top at night during the day he just has the 240 if the sun is out. He is a 19yr old poor doer.

Eowyn has a 180g Combo on with a 25og standard over the top again with the top layer removed on the birght sunny days. She is a poor doing 12 yrs old WBxTB

Mine are out from 7am till 6pm
TBxArab Heavy weight full neck with a medium weight full neck underneath and a rain sheet on top this keeps the heavier rugs dry and at night he has a heavyweight duvet a heavyweight full neck stable rug and a full neck duvet on as well he feels the cold.

ISH who has a chacer clip has a heavyweight full neck with a rain sheet on top during the day and at night he has a fleece and a heavyweight standard neck and a heavyweight full neck stable rug on and leg wraps to keep his legs warm.

Native Pony has a heavyweight full neck and a rain sheet on during the day and a fleece and a heavyweight stable rug on at night.

My fully clipped WBs are in fleeces, then a MW with neck, then a HW on top, they have been in there stables 24/7 the past few days but normally go out during the day and in a night,!
They are in full work hence the clip and competing (when the snow lets us get the lorry out of the drive!)
