I own a 16.3hh trekehner who is 9 yrs old and I would like to know what other warmblood owners are feeding, I'm still feeding Ash once a day, plus he's out 24/7 on good grass, ablib hay when he is in for grooming and things but he could still do with a bit more weight on him, teeth are ok, wormed up to date and not overworked, I think he needs something in his feeds to give a bit more of an energy boost but I dont want anything thats gonna make him go to fizzy because I'm not the most confident of riders, at present he's on 1/2 scoop of speedi-beet, 2 scoops of chaff, 1 scoop of maintenance cubes with garlic and farriers formula as supplements, I would love to have some advice and suggestions on his feed please thanks for reading folks.

hi i have a warmblood and feed top spec to keep weight on her also chop and a slow relese mix also sugar beet and i think this works really good for her.

I have a 16hh rising 6 Dutch warmblood, who is a very good doer. He is in medium/hard work (ridden every day, schooled three times a week, competed regularly). He's stabled at night, out most of the day in a small paddock with not too much grass. He's in very good condition at the moment but is prone to fat if I'm not careful.

He gets: 1 scoop Hi Fi lite and 675g Bailey's lo cal balancer (divided between two feeds), oil, Biotal Equine Gold and garlic. Adlib hay at night. I add 400g tiger oats to this if he needs some extra oomph.

Hope this helps!

My Old Oh So Naturally fat warmblood got Spillers Slow Response, a bit a energy but with no fizz. He also had to spend most of the summer in his stable as he just got too fat and slow on grass.

My friend owns a 17.2hh Trakkie 18yo, he is fed half a scoop of pasture mix, large double handful of chaff, sometimes speedibeet, good grazing, garlic, cod liver oil and cortaflex, devils claw and cider vinegar for his arthritis.

I feed my 15hh trakkie x 8yo, the same but minus the last 3 supplements and in smaller quanities.

My dads 17H warmblood is out all day being schooled 5 times a week and competing once a week (dressage). He is kept out 24/7 he is fed loads(blue chip, cortaflex ,2 scoops of chaff 1 scoop competition mix, 1 scoop of oats.
My warmblood X pony has nothing but grass(out 24/7) , and is schooled 6 times a week and has 2 2 day events a month.

The difference is not only breeding and use but temperament as dads horse is very stressy and quickly looses condirion my pony is a good doer but not cobby!

Mine is out for 8 hours a day give or take, she has 1 feed of 3/4s scoop of Country Competition mix, scoop of HiFi, mug of black sunflower seeds and 500g of Ultimate Balancer. She is on the light side (how I like her) and she is rather backwards in going forwards, hence the comp mix!

My 17hh WBxTB mare (I know she is not full WB, but thought she may count

) is quite difficult to keep looking in good condition. When I took her on she was a bit podgy having not done any work at all. I rebacked her (she was 5 years old) and she started to look a little like a hat rack

The more I increased her work, the more condition she seemed to lose. She is not a foody at all, so no matter how much haylage you put in or feed you add, she'll only eat what she wants.

She is now looking much better, and I feel I have finally found the perfect combination for her...

She is worked 5 days a week (6 when competing) mostly at trot and canter in the school and is out on good grass for approx. 8 hours a day. She gets the following feed:-

Dinner
1 stubbs scoop Alfa A
1 cup TopSpec Feed Balancer
1/4 stubbs scoop Baileys Topline Mix (no. 17 I think)
Garlic
Formula 4 Feet
Cortaflex
Flower of Sulphur

Breakfast
1/2 stubbs scoop Alfa A (won't eat much for breakfast)
1 cup TopSpec Feed Balancer
1/4 stubbs scoop Baileys Topline Mix
Garlic
Flower of Sulphur

Hope that helps

Mine is in nearly all the time so can discount grass from his diet pretty much.

Hard feed he's on oats

Forage he's on haylage. In light work now (just being brought back in) but looking well. He's not hard to keep weight on but IF he does start to drop he turns into a hat rack very very quick

Beau, 6yr old Belgian WB x ISH is getting 2kg of Topspec Cool Condition Cubes, Topspec Feed Balancer, 1 stubbs scoop hifi, 6 squirts feelgood 30 garlic, parsley and linseed oil, quarter scoop of Alfa Beet, carrot and apples. Cup of sunflower seeds.

Lance, 18yr old Latvian WB, handful of hi fi, 2 squirts garlic, quarter scoop alfa beet, handful of cool mix.

Not much grass at the mo.

Beau gets adlib hay when he is in, as does Lance.

Split into 2 feeds:
1.5 scoops of Pasture Mix (1.5kg)
Mug of topspec (225g)
Handful of chaff
Glug of soya oil
Moodaid

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....Bo is out 5 to 6 hours a day on no grazing but with adlib haylege and in at night, and in medium work...competing once a week roughly.

He gets (twice a day) :-

1 Scoop Chaff
1/2 Scoop Bran
1 Scoop Oats
1/2 Scoop Barley
1/2 Scoop Maize
Sugra Beat

Also, two large hay(lege) nets a day.

He is a Dutch WB (High Selle Francais content)...

hmmm i have a nutty warmblood then and he has 1 scoop alfa a and 1 scoop of normal economy nuts !!!

When in really hard work he gets a 1/4 of barley !!

Mine is in his box most of the time (he has minimal turnout) and is on 2 small scoops (little white shovel things) of alfa-a, 4 Pimm's cups of comp mix (thats just under a bowl scoop) and Blue Chip Pro twice a day and he looks good on that

My mare is fed handful of hi-fi Lite and handful of badminton dressage mix, plus soya oil & garlic. Shes out for 1/2 day everyday to keep her weight downa nd has ad lib hay

I have a 16'2" Hanoverian. When in regular work he gets up to a scoop of economy nuts for breakfast, a scoop nuts + chaff for tea + about 3-4 sections of hay a day. If I can't exercise him for any length of time I have to cut him down to just hay and less than a handful of hard feed otherwise he's a pain to handle from the ground.

you could says he's a good doer this is how he looks on light rations !

Dodson and Horrell Build up, small amount of Alpha A and ad-lib hay for WB who would eat all day. D&H build up is fab and we feed it to all ours in varying quantities. Its great for condition and seems to be non-fizzy!!
