Calling field renters :-D

I rent 2 1/2 acres from our local council. It costs £235 per annum. Check out your local council's website see if this is something they offer.

When I rented mine I had heard a bloke had a 3 acre field behind his house. I just knocked on his door & asked if he would rent it out. He said yes for £10 per week & as a surprise bonus it also had 2 stables, a tack room, a hay barn & he provided water :)

I used to rent fields from a local farmer wither from word of mouth or once I wrote to all the local farmers asking them if they had a field (stating how many horses to go on it, running water needed etc). Had a few replies and went to look.

Had a pony quite locally years ago and happened to be passing last summer. The place was overgrown with shoddy fencing but I asked the vicar (owner) if I could rent it and he said of course.

Following on from that theres a piece of land next door, approx 2 more acres. I wanted another horse so asked the neighbour who let me have the land and the barn (admittedly its taken me a month of clearing it) to convert to stables. I only pay for the electric there because the water comes from a big old well :)

Well firstly I spoke to someone on here who was nearby who gave me a few pointers, then I put an ad in the post office window and also emailed the parish council of the two villages that I had my eye on, I had LOTS of replies from the parish council and although they didn't know people specifically they were very helpful so I really recommend that! Eventually someone saw my window ad and said I could rent their field and at the time they also had a horse that needed riding (bonus you'd think but I ended up having it on loan and fell off quite badly). Whilst I had that horse a space next to my HHO friend happily became free so I snapped it up whilst injured by said horse, and was prepared for when I bought my own a few months ago :-)

I recommend writing letters/phoning local farmers if you can get their details, or even turning up but sometimes they are hard to find and personally I wouldn't want to catch them at an inconvenient time!
