Finding the perfect home for a pony is such a task!
Beginning to wonder if it exists! Have found a lovely home but it's in Scotland (10 hours a way!) So can you people from my county & surrounding please tell me if there are any really good willing homes out there for my boy?
He needs a home where he can start his proper training every day & has a confident handler whom he can create a bond with. Lives out mainly in summer, but comes in on freezing winter nights, not every night, just the really cold ones! He's 2 years old & 13.2hh, will make 14hh plus. Has started to become a silly 2 year old & rears when being led sometimes... something i simply don't have the confidence to stop. He has been lightly shown, had saddle on, & walks out on roads. Needs a long term 5* home.
Literally want absolute pittance for him compared to what he's worth, as i just want that right home!

Also on another note... sending your horse 10 hours away as a 2 year old who has barely travelled longer than 45 mins, would you do it?

Sounds lovely-I'm sure there must be lots of lovely homes out there!- if had won the lottery your boy would be the perfect friend for my 2 yr old gelding to be turned out with to just chill out!

Re the rearing when led- silly q from me i know but has he been gelded? as sounds like 'colty' behaviour and he is trying to be "top dog"?

Good luck! oh and i hate selling horses but if i really had to and it was going to a good home then yes i probably would send on a long journey as long as there were plenty of stops along the way! all of the youngsters that come over from the continent and ireland get a long journey. But on the otherhand i suppose when they are more "local" you can pop in to visit every now and then if the new owners don't mind!

Hi there, He's been gelded & deffo not a rig! But he does certainly think he is a stallion unfortunately for soem reason or another.
The home in Scotland looks wonderful from what i have seen in pictures, beach alongside, nice stables & big field with other horses, i just worry about him getting stressed with the journey & the fact i am less likely to ever see him again if he's in Scotland!

It depends...the transport costs to Scotland from Hampshire must be astronomical in today's financial climate so if someone in Scotland wants him presumably he is very well bred and the price you are asking justifies the cost of getting him all the way up there? If he is really well bred then I would have thought someone closer should be interested.... However, if the people in Scotland are knowledgeable enough to know exactly what a bargain he is then sending him up there isn't necessarily a bad thing. Are they a showing home for example?

If you have a really fantastic pony and it's just his behaviour that you can't deal with then there are plenty of experienced people you could send him to for groundwork training in the areas you have indicated.

Do you keep him on a yard at present and is there someone experienced who could do him for you for a few days to give you a break from him and some time to think over what you really want to do? If he's a real cracker I'd be tempted to hang on to him and work through the issues if you can or alternatively some people will take youngsters on loan to bring on as that's the bit they enjoy the most.

If it puts your mind to rest, I sent a colt at 11 months from Hampshire to Scotland with Gillies transport. He had an overnight stop where he was stabled and walked off the lorry the other end as fresh as a daisy and none the worse for wear!
