As title please, my daughter has come across this website and it looks as if it will solve a lot of the problems she is currently having with her mare. She is looking at the ProvideIt plan and I just wondered if anyone here had used it. I tend to be a bit sceptical about plans that promise to solve all problems and would appreciate any comments, positive or negative. (Hopefully positive)

Earlier I had looked at the website a LOT because a year ago I was having trouble with my own mare spooking and generally being a scary silly pig. I put it down to a combo of diet and me having lost a lot of confidence because of her antics, so I was very interested in their promises! In the end I didn't try any of their stuff, I ended up moving yards, escaped from the haylege ex YO insisted on feeding, added a magnesium supplement for a few weeks and the problem vanished on its own. So depending on the reviews you get here, you might be able to follow the website's advice alone and not use the products?

fattylumpkin, that is sort of what I was thinking, they are based in the USA so anything ordered will cost a lot due to the excess postage etc. I think following the website advice might be the way to go initially. I am normally very wary of anything that promises so much - our mare is fed good quality hay, is out in the field for at least 8 - 10 hours a day in good weather on fair grazing, is fed a low starch diet of feed and is barefoot.

It looks like a site advocating the reduction of sugar! Perhaps have a look at something like simple solution feeds or pure feeds. I switched my horse to alpha a and the balanced and he looks great on it. I am going to move him up to alpha with oil now.

Jenny Paterson is in New Zealand, and is very helpful if you contact her - she was here last August and she was trying to get a distributor over here, ask her. She advocates salt more than reduction in sugar, as a good basic electrolyte to carry water to the cells, and as NZ has lots of cattle grazing their environment is quite similar to the UK. Contact her with your questions, she is more than happy to help (although in NZ I gather they think she is an oddball lol)

I feed 2 tablespoons of salt to each if my horses feed daily. If you read the information on this website it states that offering a salt lick does not suffice.

A friend's horse was due to be pts through itchiness and sensitivity - you couldn't brush him or turn him out anywhere but in an electrified paddock. The vets ran every possible blood test with no answer. I suggested she add the salt to his feeds and he was back to normal in 2 weeks after 18 months of hell.

Actually she is quite well respected in NZ. Whether you buy into her arguments or not, she presents well reasoned discussions and is happy to discuss, unlike many others operating in that space.

I think that she is brilliant! She sent me graze eezy free of charge a few years back and transformed our pony who can't tolerate clover! I feed 2 table spoons of salt religiously all year round! I hope that she brings her products over to the UK as I would be first in the queue!

Thank you all for your responses, my daughter and I have carefully read through the website, a lot of what she says makes sense. We have already ruled out any other possible causes for her behaviour changes so will try adding salt to her diet and see how it goes.

Try looking at this website too http://gravelproofhoof.org - if you look at the ingredients in the calm healthy products, the gravelproof page will tell you the best places to source them in the UK - if you use both websites together it's very helpful. If you need any magnesium let me know ... we can do a deal I've got loads since I sold my mare!

I am forever sending people the link to her website. I think its something everyone should read :)
After putting my gelding on Premium MVA he is looking awesome. He had itchy skin, no matter how much feed I gave him he was looking lean. After consulting with Jenny via email and Marlene her off sider in Taranaki, he has this supplement twice daily with course salt, chaff and linseed oil. Hay and break fed grass. He has topline and muscle now. The aminos and minerals added in this product have done wonders. Not to mention his hooves. Thankyou Jenny you know your products.
