Having not needed to use anything like this for a while I wonder if somebody can give me a lead. I have a new horse who has been pretty stressed after his change of home, a big change I should say from quiet and calm to 'racehorse' mode and stressy. His feed has been adjusted so I am certain that this is just stress related at having to move house. So, any suggestion please?

Thank you! To be honest he looks marvellous, very bright, shiny coat, nicely covered. The stress shows in ridden work (from pretty quiet to spooky and occasionally silly), slightest thing has him parading aorund the field, watched by his companions with disbelief, this is an ex hunt horse who now thinks olympic dressage well within his grasp!!! All we wanted was a hack/light hunter!! Could you pm me with the details of Coligne please?

My mare is on Equifeast's Cool, calm and collected. She is much more relaxed on this. Still has the odd day but so much better

Hiya

You can purchase many calming supplements nowadays. Calmers vary depending on the individual horse so you may not find the correct calmer on the first purchase. I used 2 calmers before finding the correct one for my horse.

Establish if you require a calmer for everyday use or just for when your horse gets stressed in certain situations? You can purchase some supplements that can be fed for a few days to settle the horse.

If you require more advice or if you wish to view a large range of brand supplements I can PM you my website address. We supply product information sheets which are helpful.

The problem with all the calmers I have seen, NAF, Coligone, etc is the price. Really steep for a product you don't even know is going to help. My TB was really stressy after we moved yards and I started giving him rescue remedy (about a fiver from boots - they may still have the 3 for 2 offer on) a few drops in each feed and a few drops on a treat shortly before riding, sometimes I put a few drops in his water too depending on how he was. It really seemed to help him, and I had a few drops myself before I got on him. He is now going very nicely and although still a bit bad tempered, much, much calmer. If it doesn't make a difference you are out £5 and can then try some of the expensive stuff.

I use NAF Magic calmer on my TB mare, seems to take some of the stress off her. Started it when we moved yards, had a break off it, she used to jog almost constantly on a hack, now some days we can actually walk the whole hack! Think it must do something and perhaps a bit psychological on my part so I can relax a bit more with her!!

How long does the £12.95 item last? 100 mls a day that's 5 days so that's £80 A MONTH!!!!! I think that's pretty steep don't you?

But it's not 100ml a day forever -just the initial first week - the amount can then be lowered - plus we do 5litre bottles for people who use on a long term basis which cost a lot less - so it's quite economical - especially if it keeps your horse happy and healthy!

My point was to say that you said it cost the earth to try it out when you don't know whether or not it works... and my response was that it doesn't - £12.95 to find out whether something works or not is reasonable - and with the response rate that we have, we are confident in how successful the product is!
