I am about to move yards and I'm a bit worried about my very stressy mare, she can literally get wound up about anything. I have never used a calmer before so have no idea which to try. Any recommendations would be great. Also I am about to start competing her and will probably use it for this too. I'm not sure if a one shot type that you use on the day or a daily dose one would be best? Any recommendations very much appreciated

I've been using horse first relax me for about a year and a half now and really rate it. However I think my boy has developed a tolerance to it and so I've just ordered some anxikalm. It would appear that you can feed that daily or for a particular occassion, it says to use 3-4 hours before hand. Haven't used it yet though so yet to evaluate that one!

Another vote for Nupafeed!!!

If you ring them they work out a plan tailored to your horse

If you are planning on going somewhere you can ring them and they advise you on how much and when to give it

Most calmers you give your horse the same amount everyday

With nupafeed you change it to what they have done

Java gets 30ml a day which is the maintenance level for him

Before a show for 2 days before he gets 75ml twice a day

Say if they have been in a stressy situation they will have used more magnesium and their levels are reduced

So you increase it for that day to bring levels back up again

For java if I know I'm not going anywhere for a week and just riding in the field he gets 30ml

With our 70mph winds the otherday I gave him 20ml at lunch to keep levels up and he never bothered at the wind

You also cannot overdose a horse with nupafeed so if your horse is really stressy you can give them as much as you want

Also some horses may need the maintenance amount that's recommended for a horse bigger than itself but just find the level suitable for your horse

example for a 15.2hh recommended maintenance level is 25ml a day, Java gets 30ml
