I am finally moving to pastures new :), well Mr V is! I am a bit concerned as by the time moving day comes he will have been stabled 24/7 for a week. Also he hasn't traveled since we collected him at 8 month old - he's 3 and a half now! So there's the loading, the journey (about 10minutes worth!) then eventually there will be him playing out with his new baby friends. I am considering one of the calmers to take the edge of him for it all. I have been looking and have found the NAF 5 star, the Carl Hester one and someone suggested Kalms tablets? Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

Also what would you do leg protection wise on the journey - he's only worn bandages once for a photo shoot but wears brushing boots regularly...

Hi,
i recently tried a calmer on a very stressed pony before travelling and it worked well!
I had tried naf magic in the past without much effect but this was fab!
It was called calme and i got it from my local branch of the herbarium. It was advertised to calm dogs for firework night but the herbalist said you could use it for any animal (even humans) it is non habit forming and works within 30 mins and there is no loading dose. Also it is fairly cheap, i think i paid £4.99 bottle (it is a small bottle)
i had to experiment with the dose a bit but the lady said the only thing that would happen if you gave too much is he would fall asleep.
It does contain valarian though so not legal to compete with.
If you need any more info pm me x

Can you spend some time practising loading before the move? I personally wouldn't be giving a youngster a calmer, I'd use it as a training opportunity.

Hey!

I moved my two from west midlands to lincolnshire recently and used the global herbs super calm sachets (about £12 for a pack of 5, but some shopsbdobsell them individually) and these seemed to work a treat!

The key is to feed them with calmer in when they're relaxed, I fed them in the field as normal, fetched them in an hour later and then got on the box about 30mins after and they were fine (my mare hadn't traveled in 9years!!), I do think we underestimate horses sometimes though as I think through the whole move process it was me that was by far the most stressed!!!

Good luck and enjoy your new yard!

No I cannot practise loading - this is part of the reason why I am moving (long story) The journey is only 20 minutes walking, it's literally the next villiage. If a calmer will make this a nice experience then surely that is training.
