Hi,

Having been a 'lurker' on this forum for a while, ive finally decided to bite the bullet and register as could really do with some advice.

Im looking for a calmer for my horse which actually works, we've tried all the usual ones on the market - NAF, Horse First, Steady up etc etc but so far nothing seems to have worked. He just seems to be tense and prone to fits of exploding, we've had the usual vet checks, saddle etc, ive got a really good instructor but we just think its in his head and needs something to help him relax.

My friend has started using a supplement from Day, Son & Hewitt called Relaxin, think its quite a new one, seems to have made a big effect on her horse, just wondering if anyone else has used it or knows anything about this supplement before i go out and buy it? I did speak to them on their stand at Badminton, from what they said it sounds a really good product (and comes in a really smart tin which would look great in my kitchen!) Would just be really grateful for any feedback before i go out and buy another supplement. Any advice greatly received!

Hi yes ive used Relaxin (luv The Tin) it worked on one horse but not on the other, but i have found its very much trial and error with the calmers some work for some but not others.
Have you tried changing his diet cos that can make a big diff and anything that we have thats a bit sharp liveout 24hr7.
Goodluck.

Guess it depends on why horse is like this, if its due to feeling a bit too well I(spring grass etc) thats making him a little like this then I'd recomend Equimins Serenity, magnesium type calmer, guaranteed to work or your money back and it does work wonders...providing that is the cause of the behaviour, every tack room should have a tub!

However if your not competing and you want something to help with the nerves, basically if its all his head, then I'd strongly recomend Gold Label Tranquil (herbal calmer) however it does contain valarian, but it does really work and you will notice a difference, not straight away, you'll need to be feeding it for up to month before you notice as it takes a while to build up.
