I know this is a regularly posted topic but I could do with some advice. I have tried my grumpy mare on Oestress, Hormonise and Brewers Yeast over the past 8 months. Non seem to have had any effect at all and i'm left with a depleted bank balance!

This weekend she turned into the witch from hell as I suspect she's cooking up a season.

What do you guys recommend? She is very stressy and gets very anxious when doing anything on her own (ok when the other horse is around). She cow kicks like a good 'un when you groom her too!

I'm a fan of Equine America products, has anyone tried No more Moods?

Have you tried D&H stroppy mare? Its worked wonders on my mare. I use the liquid stuff that costs me £15 and lasts about 4-5weeks (Depends on how much you need to use).

If you have tried all those supplements, especially Oestress which I have found very good, and they haven't worked, then I would get the vet to check her ovaries. I also know some people have found the marble very good too in situations like yours. Definitely worth talking to the vet.

Agnus Castus sounds interesting having Googled it: how do you feed it, pills or tincture and what kind of doseage?

I have spoken to my vet this afternoon and I think i'm going to take her in for scanning and then look at Regumate/marbles. The more I research I think she has a hormone in balance- poor thing, no wonder she feels so s***y!

I buy it from a website called Barefoot Basics (just www.barefootbasics.com I think, or .co.uk) which a friend pointed me in the direction of. I'm not a barefoot type by any means, very traditional, but it has some interesting stuff on.

It comes in bags, sort of looks like dried seeds. I feed one 15 ml scoop a day, but you can feed twice that. She's having a bit of a bad season this time around (bad in the sense that she's being a total tart and nappy, but she's fine to ride. V messy and smelly as well

) so I'm going to up the dose for a few days and see if that helps.

So far so good though...
