Calmers - recomendations please

Depends what you're using them for!
eg, I use Blue Chip Karma, daily, which seems to be keeping the lid on my rather exhuberent fellow at the moment...

I have been using nupafeed at the last two show we have been too, the results are amazing, pony much more settled and it is totally legal. A lot of the top level producers use it on the circuit.

Second the global herbs calmer. Dont need as much as it says on the tub though!!

I agree - GH TB calmer is the only thing that worked on my arab x TB when I was bringing him back into work. He was incredibly stressed out and I tried lots of different ones such as MagOx, CalMag, Top Spec, Hiltons, GH Super Calm etc and none of them made any difference. Figured out it wasnt a magnesium deficiency so anything magnesium based wasnt going to work. Dont know what is in the TB calmer but it works! I tested this by taking him off it for a week and he went nuts so put him straight back on and back to normal non-spooky pony.

hey sach - didnt know you was on here!

I have tried magnesium supplements on my mare with no sucess at all.

Have now moved on to Topspec Calmer. She's only been on it a week so not much to report yet but she did seem lovely and chilled when i rode on Friday will see tonight though as due to the weather she has been stable bound since Saturday evening!

Re. the Global herbs calmer - If I am reading the website correctly - you feed 100 mg per day which is equivalent to a tub every 10 days. At £22 per tub that makes £66 per month!

You need to load up for the first couple of weeks and then use the maintenance rate. I think when I loaded up it was 1 tub for 3 weeks and that was double the maintenance rate. You then go onto the maintenance rate.

My 15.3hh anglo has 2 scoops a day (one in b'fast and one in dinner nothing in lunch) and 1 tub lasts about 6 weeks. I order it online and it is £19.50 a tub. Its the same price at my tack shop.

I easily spent more on all of the useless calmers which had no effect at all although the Hiltons one was very nice and he was very interested in all of the dried flowers and herbs. Didnt stop him from acting like a total pr@t though when he found out he wasnt just a field ornament (well, he had been off work for 26 weeks so I couldnt really blame him). Top spec did nothing for him either. All of th cast offs were fed to my other horse and there was no difference there either. Noticed a difference with the GH TB calmer within 2 days and a massive difference within 1 week. By the end of the 3 weeks front loading period I put him on the maintenance rate and he stayed the same. I suppose I could take him off it now, but he loves the taste of it and I dont want to risk have a lunatic on my hands again since he is still on restricted grazing. He has been on it for about 4 months now.

Can you feed GH TB calmer just on show days. My mare is only sharp at the beginning of the season when she goes out to new places. She is fine at home so dont really want to give something which has to be fed every day otherwise she becomes lazy and doesnt come off the leg.
