Calmers...

Have a TB type horse (who we have discovered is part arab... GREAT mix

) He used to nap and shy and leap forwards and generally behave like a pr*t... I am now using A&P's calm and condition (as opposed to a cool mix) and this seems to have solved the riding problems!

But he's really naughty on the lorry and the yard when he's not getting attention and has broken god knows how many stable doors now!!! And taking him to training and competitions is just a complete nightmare with the bad behaviour, it's like somebody flips a switch? Used to have him on the equine america one but find that useless to be honest...

So does anyone know which is the best one on the market? Have heard something about Brewers Yeast???

magnesium is supposed to be good, equine america do a version of this, might be worth a try

I use a combination of Blue Chip Karma and brewers yeast for my very fizzy purebred arab. He sounds a bit like your boy - always wants to be centre of attention and if he thinks he's being ignored he'll pick up, throw around or swing on anything within reach. He was also very very spooky to ride until going on the Karma and Yeast. Now he rarely spooks. He's still a bit of an attention seeker but is definitely much better with the Karma and Yeast. But I think you'll just have to accept the arab intelligence doesn't normally make for a quiet life.

When I was looking into calmers on here someone did post that magnesium studies were done in Australia and it's something to do with the condition of the ground there and lack of magnesium which isn't so much of an issue here , also that it works better on mares.

I have had my gelding on magnesium calmer last 2 months but can't say it's made much difference, going to try the brewers yeast as there's been interesting posts on here to say it's worked and it's much cheaper too, prob because it doesn't have 'FOR HORSES' on the packet!!

NUPAFEED! Put my old lad on it and it seems to have done the trick, copes better being stabled, not as excitable. Expensive, but worth it!

Global do a thoroughbred calmer specifically for them as they do not respond to many other calmers in the same way , worked for my very scared mare and several friends have used it on other thoroughbred types , only £20 a tub so not too expensive to give a go
