Im taking the slightly barmy one out jumping (i dont "do" jumping??) at the end of the month...

Shes quite easy to wind up, spooking wise i mean. Shes a star working with other horses/things galloping/broncing up her bum! (shes 5!) I want her to chill out/relax - shes already on valarium, which has helped her massivly, as she used to stress a little when she was the only one in (could still see her friends but stil...) none of that anymore

Im thinking would it be worth it popping an instant calmer in her feed on the morning before the show???

Or will the two calmers not be a clever idea?

im not the most confident person in the world so agreeing to go jumping is a miracle in itself :/ And so would like to give us both a positive experience!!! She has been this show ground with me before and jumped before - she was wonderfully behaved - but she was 4 and didnt have an opinion then...!

Thanks in advance!!

p.s if anyone in cheshire wants to take it instead of me please pm :p

If you just want something to take the edge off then I don't think an instant calmer would do any harm at all. Horses react differently to different calmers, have you tried any with her before - as some may work wonders but others might not do a thing!
I find that the Global Herbs instant calmer (powder) works well for ours, and I know a lot of people swear by the Magic instant calmer (syringe), if you need suggestions for some. They shouldn't turn her into a zombie but should tone down any madness and help her to focus! Good luck! x

thanks!

i was bothered about the valarium shes already on having a bad effect on the other calmer?

I will obvs try it before i go to the show to make sure it dosent have her keeling over lol:D

Thanks :)

the only thing to check is whatever your going to give her on top doesnt have valerian in as its a common ingredient in a lot of calmers. also valerian isnt legal to compete on so if your going to a show where random testing may take place -beware! :)

When you've decided which calmer to use, ring the manufacturer and ask if it's safe to feed with valerian.

By the way, where do you get your valerian from? My local tack shops don't stock it.

Good luck with the jumping!

I feed equine america calmer aswell as valerian daily and have also fe instant naf magic/sedaline paste on day my horse goes travelling. (He is nutty)vet said was fine as different ingredients.

its only a local show (unnaffiliated)!

Which calmers are legal??

I can switch her onto the same make as the instant calmer if thats more legal? lol

tammytoo - i got it in my local tackshop £8 for a massive bottle :)
