Is there a natural calmer which I can feed over a week or so before an event to kep ponio's brain on a level? I'm not ken on giving him a 'one off' would rather build it up over time. It's just a thought atm, but would appreciate advice and or experinces and recommendations. I don't want him zoned out, just calmed a notch or two!!

I don't know if you class it as "natural" but I use Equine America So Kalm powder, my mare has it all the time in her feed and it is fab stuff. It can be given in double dose before a show or whatever you want them calm for, or you can get a concentrated syringe of it with three doses in and give that one to two hours before. So you could feed the powder for a while and if needed top up either with extra powder or the syringe. It really works on my mare, I tried magnesium but it had no effect but So Kalm has l-tryptophan in which seems to be exactly what my mare needs and she is much less of a handful! She's very laid back usually though and I was worried she'd be almost comatose on a calmer, but it's just taken the edge off so I can walk her in-hand every day without getting mown down (she's on box rest).

Again, I have no idea if it is natural, but a couple of weekend ago we tried NAF Tempralex and it was fantastic! She behaved beautifully, when only the weekend before she had been positivly dangerous and we were in such a dillema about what to do with her as she would have been too dangerous to sell and also i wasnt very happy about riding her. I was so impressed and i really think that it would be worth a try. It is quite expensive but well worth it.

NAF magic. My boy is on half the maintenance dose on a day to day basis, and then goes upto comp dose 3days before a comp. First one we went to with him on it, he won the event, whereas before he had been a stressy, tense and rude little horse! Seems to do the job for us, and feeding it the way i have means very very cost effective aswell

Naf MAgic - and then you can give extra when you need it. I usually give it in the morning feed, but the day before a 'pony party', she gets a dose the night before, and then double for breakfast.
She floats through the day usually

Hi I would reccomeng Global herbs supercalm it's brilliant used it when I moved my horse and now he's on box rest with limited turn out. You can give anything up to two scoops and it works in 2-3 days.

I have just bought the new Blue Chip Kalm, but Finn won't eat his feed when its in there. Does the NAF Magic have any awkward tastes?

I had very good results with Nupafeed on a spooky horse, but I used it all the time. It's pretty expensive, but a big bottle did last me ages. It cut out 95% of the spooking out hacking & also stopped the sillies at shows.

The lady on their helpline is v nice & helpful.
