This weekend I am moving my horses to a new home. None of them have been loaded for several years and one of them is a very nervy gelding who I reckon I may have trouble getting into the trailer. Wondered what tips anyone has and recommend a good calming supplement for him to help him travel and settle in the new field?
They are all field kept so don't go in stables and don't get a hard feed everyday until November so need something that can be given the morning of the move really.
They will be going in a big trailer and it's about a 25 minute drive.
Thanks!

i have used topspec calmer with good effect but i think it takes a while to get into the system .im sure there are syringe tpe calmers that work quickly. is there any chance of practising loading first.?

So long as you don't compete, we've found that valerian codrial is like magic juice! It's quick working and cheap too, and you only need a small amount so can mix in just a handful of feed. Only thing is it's banned in the competition world, but to me that just shows it must work haha!!

Last time we moved our mare we gave her a bit of Sedalin, has no problem with going to new yards or traveling once she's on. Other than that I've heard good things about valarian cordial and also ProKalm

James Hart do a supplement called V calm (which also contains Valerian) this is good stuff also, if you don't want to go down the herbal route!
When the Hunt went past our farm last year my horse went ballistic, and got himself in a right state. I gave him a dose of this and it worked a treat!
They also do one specifically for traveling horses called Travel Calm.
