My young TB mare has started to get a bit nervy and flighty with the new spring grass and as I am about to start taking her to shows I am thinking of putting her on a calming supplement for a bit. Do they actually work and can anyone recommend an especially good one? Thank you!

I use Naf Magic at this time of year on my two Tb's... seems to even them out and stop them getting nervy. Only give them a half scoop of it though as a full scoop makes them a bit too calm...

Nupafeed is fantastic- I tried everything on the market at the time for Lillie and it was the only one which had any effect. Was talking to a lady at Windsor who said Equine America make one which is also very effective

Bluechip hv a new magnesium calmer on the market - recently out called 'Karma', about £25.00 a bottle. Some people on my yard swear by Nupafed Magnesium clamer but can only be purcashed over internet and is very pricey (like £90.00 a litre or something!!) :-o

Its weird how they work for different horses- NAF Magic did nothing for the two hosrse I tried it on.. I think it is a case of trial and error- finding one that works the the individual horse.

You could try Blue Chip Karma. Just got some for my TB mare, every one was talking about so I thought I would also try It...4 days on "still early days". but so far so good....

Try a magnesium calmer such as the NAF one others have suggested, but I believe it works on the assumption that there is a magnesium deficiency in the horse making it uptight in the first place, so if there is no deficiency there may be no change. My horse is on Equine America So Kalm, and although it does have the opposite effect on certain horses, on some it works fab (mine is so much better on it!)
Calmers are a bit trial and error TBH, I tend to start at the cheapest and work my way up the price scale until one works!

Mag Ox works with my boy. The NAF Magic calmer made him worse bizarrely... As Silmarillion says it really is trial and error.

i used ex stress on mine and was very impressed by it - very effective - its pricy though - ive nearly finished the pot and im going to put her on brewers yeast - very cheap i got it for £8 - people on here swear by it - but like the otherssay its a bit trial and error - good luck x

I used to swear by the Equine America one (SoKalm) but I have put my horse on a daily dose of Brewers' Yeast and he has chilled out completely. It has taken less than a month, and he's a different horse. And it is cheap!

Try Nomad by Badminton Feeds......trust me it works, was used on a ex race horse that gets very uptight and is a TB obviously,he behaved a Windsor Horse show in his class, and had been a nightmare before which spoilt any chance he had, they did feed it 4 scoops to start(which is over the 2 as on tub!) but, the change was amazing! Retails at £15 a tub magnesium product....worth a try!

i agree that it is trial and error but the one that worked for my very neurotic TB was Feel Good 30 Science Formula Calming Supplement, its about £17 - £18 for a tub that lasts a month depending on the dose you use, i would swear by it.

Mine is on MAgic for his nervy moments now, and he is fab on it. No different on day to day basis, just so much more chilled in stressy situations. friend worked in a tack shop for a while and said they had loads of positive feed back from people using it
