Has anyone tried the 'Equine Oxyshot'? what do you think of it or can anyone recommend a good calming supplement which works well! e.g blue chip karma or Naf Magic!
I used the Equivite Calm on my mare for 3 years and I know it worked because twice I stopped using it as I thought that she had chilled with time, and when I took her off it, within a week or so, she was exciteable again, so it was working.
I use blue chip Karma and it is super - focuses my horse's mind on me rather than on XC and makes him less argumentative, which is great. I did just use it for 3 days before shows, but he is so much more pleasant to ride on it that I now use it daily. Interestingly he's not the sort of horse you'd normally put on a calmer as he's not spooky or sharp or difficult. I only tried it because he had to have some time off when novice eventing fit and I thought it might be prudent for the first time I got back on.
Having tried everything on the market on my old mare, the other thing I'll say is that in my experience, you can't use a calmer to turn a headcase into a nice hack. You can only improve on what you've got. So I have a nice horse who will occasionally argue on the flat, the calmer takes the arguments down to a much lesser degree. I had a mare who was sharp and spooky and ridiculous about life, none of the calmers made the blindest bit of difference and were a waste of cash!
My young horse was having a rather extreme reaction to spooky things (charge off bucking until rider falls off!) so I decided a calmer might help. I'm using Blue Chip Karma, and have also changed his feed to Winergy Equilibrium which is reputed to help with behaviour, and he seems to be much better. This may just be due to him growing up and becoming used to things, and also to the warmer weather making him more chilled, but I shall certainly keep him on this combination for the moment.
Hi this is interesting have been using magic on my mare as she is not spokky or sharp but at an event does get tense and argumentative in her dressage when she thinks xc would be more fun. is the blue chip a past or supplement, any other tips other than working in for an hour!
p.s your pic is it a bengal cat - as looks similar to my snow leopard bengal.?
I saw Oxyshot advertised on eBay and was thinking of giving it a try but I looked it up on another forum first and it was really slated. Most people said it didn't work. Most recommended trying a magnesium oxide supplement instead. (But that's only going to work if your horse is magnesium deficient though.) I was left not knowing what to think... didn't buy the Oxyshot in the end, so can't actually comment from personal experience. Sorry.

It's a liquid - I just stick it in the feed. I can now work in for 30 mins and v little tension shows. I can relate to XC would be more fun....
Yes, the cat's a bengal, pure bred but we rescued him, he's the best cat ever, so funny and cool and chatty!
I used Nupafeed Liquid Calmer on my gelding. I was sceptical at first and because of hs size it cost a fair amount. He suffered from nerves hacking out alone and would stand in the yard and refuse to go out, he'd buck until he dislodged you if you kept on at him. After one day of battling him off the yard he spun around infront of a lorry and carted me back home.
Started him on Nupafeed, 5 days to "load-up" then down to maintenance level. Hacked out much better, still a little nervous but it just seemed to take the edge off him (hes fairly sharp). After a week I stopped giving it to him and havent needed to since! He hacks out a dream alone.....yet now gets sightly excited in groups!
I have recently bought a ex race horse, literally straight off the track. He is extremely Anxious about most things under saddle. I know a huge amount of time & patience is going to be the answer but i thought of maybe a supplement may just help him to 'chill' a little and not be so anxious about everything...ive read the above comments and a lot of people are mentioning blue chip karma....that could be an option..any other suggestions? some one mentioned steady up supplement, any comments on that?
