Hi, I have had my horse on calm & sensitive from Dobson but he has been acting up , I put him on this as needs weight on. I am thinking off something to calm him as he stressing when another goes out off the field and so times acting like a stallion, he had his bits off when he was 2 1/2 but he was operated on so he is not a rig , can any one suggest anything ??

Well after today I can highly reccomend Valerian cordial, my horse nearly bucked me off last week and tried to dump me in a ditch. Circumstances are that he's 35 but thinks he's 3, Arab x defo Arab comes out in behavior lol. He's been on magnesium based calmer for at least 2 years helped a bit but not enough for bringing back into work after winter, ideally he's better when exercised every day but cut long story short didn't happen. Anyway, after last week I didn't want to give him sedalin every time I rode so discussed with my vet velerian based Calmers so I got Lincoln Valerian cordial, been having it in his feed since Monday, my self preservation kicked in and I gave him 1ml of sedalin that's all I had left thankfully as he was totally zonked. Was a bit scared as its such a change so won't be mixing the two again. Going to ride again tomoz will let u know how it goes without sedalin. I did think that as it was banned by FEI it meant it might work, I'm so glad it does I just have to find a level that suits. It says to give 10 mls a day.

I noticed a change with using Brewers yeast. It was a trial from a feed company so I had to feed it and keep a temperament diary.
It was from Global Herbs and was a new product they were going to sell. Weirdly I never heard back from them so don't know if they did stock it but defo worked for us, is cheap and I assume it's the same stuff wherever you get it?
I just got some off eBay for just over a fiver ;)

Valerian does work - but is a banned substance (because it works!). If you are looking for a feed I can strongly recommend Allen & Paige. We use Cool & Collected - but they do calm & condition if you need to keep weight on. Give their feed line a call.

am scared to feed him near summer as he can be a hand full but this is strange behaviour at the min i am having his teeth checked and will try that valerian see that on ebay to.

I rode him the next day to my post above and he was fine just on the valerian, then I rode on my own yesterday, he was still a bit spooky but I can put up with that, its the bucking and trying to dump me in a ditch I can't put up with, so its sorted that. I don't care if its banned, as I said he's 35 we aint going to be competing so thats great news for me, something that actually works. Wish I'd thought of using it sooner, I didn't realise the difference in calmers tbh

i was told brewers yeast but i dont want to feed do you think you could getaway with this with carrots etc.
