Any thoughts on how many calories riding burns?
News article on bbc website suggests 1 hour steady / moderate exercise per day is essential for losing weight and keeping it off. So, what counts as exercise?
I would say that, by the time I've got to the yard and:
Mucked out and dug the whole aquamax bed over (which I do everyday)
Filled haynets
Replenished water buckets
Groomed
Ridden - school for 45 minutes or hack for up to 2 hours every day
- that should be my hour's worth.
What do you reckon?

It will vary enormously on the person's build and calorific requirements, and how energetically you carry out tasks. And whether you hack or are riding a difficult horse intense schooling. But I personally don't count riding as exercise, I only count things that are aerobic and sustained, such as running, swimming or cycling. Riding I think has benefits for muscle strength and core strength and if you are not aerobically fit then there will be some aerobic benefits. But as I say personally I would not class it as exercise, any more than I classify housework or going shopping as exercise.

I should think so, but if you are anything like me you could do that twice a day and still not loose any weight!!
