Wow, I can't believe it has been only 8 days since I have had my lovely boy. And yes he is still lovely despite using the messy corner (and only one corner I might add) as a pillow each night.

Just a little update really, nothing much to report, but some people may want to follow his progress.

So far I've worked out that he does things for a reason and once that reason is removed/dealt with, he is fine. E.g. I lunged him with a saddle on the other day and he really didn't like it bouncing on his back. Took the saddle off and lunged for a couple more minutes - he was fine. Put saddle back on and rode for a few minutes in the field - he was fine. Not bad for a boy who only turned 5 last Wednesday. I now know not to lunge with his saddle on.

We had the saddler out on Thursday - he's a wide, wide boy. The first saddle I tried made me feel seasick as I was very perched and it slipped and rolled all over the place. I have however placed an order for a lovely dressage saddle, but have a synthetic GP saddle on loan which is fine to at least get going with. My old girl's saddle didn't even sit on his back and I must admit it was a little poignant to hand it over to the saddler in part exchange for my future one. Her bridles and rugs fit my new boy which is great, but I don't feel they meant all that much. But the saddle was different and special somehow.

I've booked an outdoor school at a local equestrian centre for tomorrow and have my first lesson (in around 12 years!!) booked for Friday.

Hope you didn't mind me posting, but I can't believe he's here and so far seems to be taking everything in his stride.

Sorry, not a very complimentary picture of him, but here he is in all his nakedness in the May sunshine. :)

Yes I remember your previous post and its good that its all going well and you are discovering all the little bits that make them tick etc. Sounds like you have a good friendship going on. Looks a stunning horse. Good luck, I love reading updates on the horses.(& nice pics too)

Thank you both. I just feel there are so many posts about people having problems at this point that I wanted to post the other side of the coin. I don't expect it to all go perfectly, but so far it's going very well. I'm sure at some point we will hit the teenage tantrums.

Bernster - you were looking weren't you? Did you buy something? x

Aw he's a nice lad isn't he - no throwing his toys out of the pram, just saying "rather no, ta" to lunging with a saddle. He sounds like a really nice person to have around. Horse person... Y'know what I mean :)

I know exactly what you mean and you've hit the nail on the head. I have spent the last 30 years (yes they were wonderful years, but....) with a mare who perhaps would have been lunged with a saddle on, and decided she didn't like. Well, I could have taken that saddle off, cut it into tiny bits, burned it in front of her, and she still would have been p1$$ed off. Quite nice to have someone that just says, yeah, fine, you took the saddle off, all's well now. :)

One seriously handsome boy!
Exciting about your first lesson! Im "kind of" looking into/thinking about lessons again- Probably after even longer than you! slightly nervous.
Have a brilliant time x

Go for it!! I'm a little nervous, but more about whether my back will hold out than if he will do anything bad - now there's a sign of age if ever I saw one. ;):)

Yeah, that was just what I was thinking when I read your post - nice to hear some good news on a new horsey!

I'm gonna decide this weekend on the mare I have on trial :) V exciting!!

Thanks. We went down to Enborne Equestrian this morning and he was such a good boy. Just a few whinnies, but nothing scary. I'm going to Sarah Ward for lessons. She teaches the boys in the PC and also the RC I'm joining so it makes perfect sense. Are you a RC member? Looking forward to Sunday too. I'll FB message you, but will aim to pick you up around 9.30 if that works for you. x

A gratuitous photo after this morning's schooling session. I think he knows he's handsome. :)

I like that big arena at Enborne - nice surface, and the yard and the people there are really relaxed. Its a nice atmosphere.

Not a RC member but probably something I should think about once Jimmy gets a bit more established! Which one are you in?

9:30am Sunday is great, yay! :)
