Well as you all know we have been off at pony club camp for this week, now feeling a bit gutted as it is over half way
.
Monday started well with some good flat work. Then on to grids, the jockey needed sacking but the pony was good. They were set up on standard horse strides and we struggled to get it together on striding sometimes chipping an extra one in and others getting the normal ammount
. But he put up with me well. Then we did some xc, he jumped well and was enjoying him self. But then we went down to do the water, he said no in a BIG way
. We had a few mums come join us and he squashed a few of them
, he became very angry and was rearing and spinning all on what is quite a slope down to the water, felt like he was going to go over backwards
. We got his front feet just in then gave left it there but it took a long time, a pulled muscle for my instructor and a few bruses
que lots of apologies from me.
Any way tuesday morning he was still not in the best of moods after his antics and was not impressed with me asking him to canter so followed by lots of faces and general grumpy behaviour. He show jumped well and completed his his biggest course so far so we will be moving up a level next time we go sj
so I was happy with him and he was generally ok. We did some work on xc pacing over a set distance then a few xc jumps to make up for the time spent with my bad pony the day before.
Wednesday he was a bit wound up in the trailer and was shaking before we set off
but he was ok when we got there and he travelled well. Flat work was a bit agitated and didnt have much focus but we managed an ok run through of our dressage test. He then got in a major paddy and had to be put at the back of the drill ride as he was about to kill any one that came near him
, not sure what was up with him but he was one un happy pony. Quick break then xc he was again loving it, he jumped a really skinny skinny without even thinking abou it, sharks teeth a fence under some trees and a few simple ones. We then went on to a double thats not got a nice approach and generally can cause problems. So I decided to trot in to it as he is still green and can be taken by suprise by a second part and have issues. He did a funny jump over the first and didnt pick up behind so had a bt of a stumble on landing but then almost considered still doing the second part before stopping, I felt this was a fair response from him as I can count on one hand the times he has been xc and I felt he was being genuine. Jumped it perfectly the second time so all was well. He did his first chair and that was a bit confusing but he jumped it well so we then finished on to another chair that is bigger but easier to read for him and he flew it (I was later told that its in the intermediate course so 2'11 possibly). I then spent my lunch down at the water with him in hand and me in some wellies paddling, to cut a long story short he scared him self a bit and was looking for a bit of reasurance but he also needed a bit of a firmer word telling him to go in or he was happily going to stand on the edge all day. Well a considerable time later we had sucess and we walked through several times in hand and he splashed me quite a bit
but I can forgive him as he faced his fear and went in
. Ended up being late for sj as we had been down at the water so quickly warmed up and popped round the course happily and didnt take a second look at any of the fences
he was a bit strung out after the xc earlier and I was struggling to collect him up but not back him off his fences but he jumped clear so we will let him off. Then walked him through the water again a few times ridden and although he hesitated the first time he went through and by the time we stopped he was becoming rather confident and trying to trot down the slope
.
Any way we are having a great week and he is happy in his new stable down the road from camp. His confidence has grown loads over fences and is now managing to get horse strides between fences rather than being some where between pony and horse or swapping depending on the fence.
Thanks for reading and strawberries and cream for all that have read this. Sorry no photos as my parents havnt been there, will try get some tomorow of our drill ride and from the ODE on friday.
