Took pony to a 2 day camp at somerford last weekend. Bit nervous as last time we went he had a major meltdown and the xc was a total disaster. He is a very quirky and stressy pony and can lose the plot easily.
Day 1 got there and settled in ok. First session was gridwork in the arena. Set off very tense with some big spoons. He was very tight and couldn't possibly bend 😏. Settled once started over the poles and grid. Couldn't be more pleased with him. Made every grid combination seem so easy.
Then in afternoon onto the dreaded xc. Started off and he almost decked me a few times he was spooking and broncing. Managed to work him through it which was so chuffed with and then went onto doing some jumps. Every fence had a puddle in front and behind it so that made for some interesting jumping but he did everything I asked of him including his first ditch. The jumps may have been small but the aim was to build his confidence, and mine.
Day 2 was showjumping a course in the morning. Went down feeling so sick as this horse hates fillers. Set off a bit sticky as I was so tense and he was very tense but settled into it and jumped a full course including fillers with no issues. We have worked so hard on his showjumping that was thrilled. Kept them on the smaller side as know he has the scope but this was to work on confidence.
Then afternoon was back to the xc. Started off so chilled was really excited and was hoping to do some bigger jumps. Then all went wrong, something upset him went off broncing again and then struggled to settle him for the rest of the session. Ended up doing some easy combinations before calling it a day.
Despite feeling a bit frustrated I can't help but be pleased with how far he has come.
Can't work out how to add pics 😢
