We camped this year (well we do every year) and we took our 2 lurchers. We tend to steer well clear of the trade stands on XC day and make sure ours are on leads at all times. We also make sure they are pleasant to have round when camping for everyone, they never bark, wander round, or growl at other dogs. Why oh why then do we have to suffer through the pure ignorance of idiots who can't keep their dog quiet at night. Last night the idiots in the tent next to us - who arrived last night, had their dog in the tent with them. it barked, howled, and yapped all night. Their reaction - which we could hear clearly, was "oh poor baby, do you think she wants a drink. Oh poor baby do you think she wants a walk, oh poor baby do you think she needs a cuddle etc" and various other stupidities. This carried on right through the night. We did shout out to ask them to keep it quiet - at about 3 am, 4am and again at about 5. You would have thought they would at least have been totally shamefaced this morning - but no - the ignorant gits denied it had been noisy. I finally flipped at 9 when we were treated to a continuous yapping from getting up at 7 and then throughout breakfast and went round and told them to shut the bloody animal up - perhaps put the damn thing in the lorry as it had kept us awake all night.

Please if you are taking a dog - at least have the good manners and common sense to realise that the other people in the camp site do not mind spending the evening listening to your loud partying - but do understand that your dog taking up where you have left of and continuing for the rest of the night is beyond funny. Sorry rant over.

now that is the kind of reply that really winds me up!

Why should well behaved dogs be banned, they are certainly not a bloody menace!!

I also camped with my dog bosworth ( scottish terrier ) who was very well behaved and I am mightly glad I did not share my neighbours with you, however there was some heavy partying going on a few tents down, lots of screaming and shouting til the early hours maybe all people should be banned too, nothing short of a bloody menace!

I think, Fumanchu, that's a bit of a generalisation. Certainly, i hate nothing more than seeing a terrier chasing a horse round the XC, as at Badminton last year, and there's nothing more awful than being up ALL night, so total sympathy Bosworth.

However, Bosworth, myself, and many others, manage to take our dogs, keep them firmly on leads and quiet. No one expects a dog to be perfect, and I don't mind the odd bark when some kids football goes flying over head, but if you can't control your animal leave it at home. I don't see why some people should ruin it for those of us with polite canines.

Besides, if you banned them, spectator numbers would plummet- think how many horsie people have dogs- how many can/want to kennel them all day to go to a show?

One seems a little tetchy one does, lack of sleep does that to one, but I bet it was the cutest little cuchi cum cums you have ever seen

I certainly don't want dogs banned, I love seeing them there as long as their owners are not ignorant and actually think about their animal and ensure it doesn't cause problems for others.

Me too. Responsible dog owners make an effort to train their dogs and ensure they are not a nuisance. Don't lump us all in with the irresponsible ones! There are always people who act irresponsibly - the riders chatting away merrily with no regard for the traffic stacking up behind them, the cyclists who insist on going in packs, the motorbikes who accelerate going past you, the drivers who pull out in front of you forcing you to brake sharply and then drive slowly.....

Dogs should be banned from ALL Equestrian events.

They are nothing short of a bloody menace.

I agree. So should brats under the age of 3......have had many a derby day ruined due to selfish mothers with screaming, hysterical brats.

I personally HATE dogs at equine events. Nothing more than a liability! Not only was walking round Badminton this weekend a nightmare as the stupid things people had dragged round the shopping village kept getting tangled round your legs in a crowd, but then I had the horrid indignity of being leapt upon by my friends lurcher creature who covered me in yet more mud. Not to mention at least two sets of dogs at Badminton which had set upon each other while walking round. I don't like dogs in on leads at shows, I have a very hound phobic pony who WILL kick should any dog be silly enough to get within ten foot and will purposefully aim. Que the normal horrified reaction from dog owner to which i kindly explain that this is a "horse show" not a "dog show". I'm not a doggy person, but don't mind them when kept at home and not brought to large public events.

Unfortunately I had to watch Badminton from the comforts of my sofa however I sympathise with the campers disturbed by noisy dogs. I felt sorry for all the dogs I saw on the TV though as they looked thoroughly cold wet muddy and miserable. I have four dogs but wouldnt even consider dragging the poor souls round Badminton all day, they would hate is as I guess most of the dogs there did!

I Dont think dogs should be banned at all, I camped this year with my whippet and like most responsible dog owners avoided the busy times in the shopping area she was quiet and well behaved and enjoyed a weekend of walking but it never ceases to amaze me that people bring dogs that clearly arent socialised/friendly/trained my dog is well used to camping and going to game fairs but alot of the dogs i saw were terrified of crowds, trying to attack other dogs or not fit enough to walk the cross country course-rant over!!!

totally agree with you, Bosworth. People letting their dogs bark continously are just inconsiderate and intolerable idiots. I hate it that other people just have no respect for others
