Since I came home from my holidays, Hannah has been a complete madam to ride. After me saying that she has not bucked since she was 6 (she is turning 12 this year we think) the first day I got on her and asked her to walk on she exploded and I ended up on her neck without any stirrups
I was so unprepared for that it just completely caught me out!
Since then I have been riding her most days and just feeling as though we are not getting anywhere. She has been fighting with me about everything I ask of her, and when I ask for something different to stop her stroppiness, she just gets her tongue over the bit (lifted one hole and extra tight flash strap
) regardless of what I am doing to stop her
She is constantly fiddling about with the KK and seems to get stressed out with it all of the time.
Anyway, because I have just had enough of her attitude, I put the Myler Comfort Snaffle in that I used to ride in about two years ago, dropped it down to where it should be (thought I would see whether she tried to get her tongue over it in the normal position), left the flash quite loose and jumped on.
What a difference... the arguments just never even started, she was soft through her mouth without must asking from me, and her collected canter work was outstanding (this is when she starts throwing a tantrum and puts her tongue over the bit and tucks her chin in). I ended up not doing as much with her as I have been, but she had sweated up in all of the right places and seemed so much happier.
Can a bit really make this much difference?
I feel a bit more confident about taking her to my lesson with Spencer now tomorrow... before tonight I just though about chopping her into little pieces and burying her under my patio!!!
