My horse has became stiff in her back legs and her joints crack like crazy when I pick her back legs up. The odd thing is she appears sound.
. This. If they are lame in both legs the lameness won’t be as obvious.I imagine that she is probably bi-laterally lame. I would get the vet to check her and expect him to prescribe bute, at least.
Joints that crack is due to an escape of air. Synovial fluid lubricates joints, and this fluid is made of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Sometimes when the joint moves, gas is released, and you hear a popping or cracking noise. It can also be caused by tendons or ligaments moving over the joint. My horse has became stiff in her back legs and her joints crack like crazy when I pick her back legs up. My physio said there was an experiment with a group of vets to see if they could spot a lame horse. Only about half got it right.
