Can a pack hunt without Master's?!

Both Master's of out lovely farmers pack have resigned - both with totally justifiable reasons so this is not a 'rant' at them. The hunt has advertsised in the H & H but to no avail.

The Hunt Sec has reassured me that the pack will continue to hunt next season and will be Commitee led rather than by Master's, but I don't see how this is feasible, especially as one of the Masters also helped hunt hounds as we have no consistent 'whip's' available, especially mid week.

Any opinions on whether a 'commitee' led hunt is feasible, or does this sadly indicate the demise of our pack?

Hunting by committee happens a lot. What you do need is a Fieldmaster and an acting Master or a couple of them...to be in charge and responsible on the day. You may find it makes everyone pull together.

Wot Ditchjumper2 sed.

Lots of packs are Committee run. You do have to have "acting Masters" though, so the hunt will not be without Masters in effect.

Worry not. It will work if you all help to make it work.

Generally you have to have an 'acting' master of the day as someone has to hold responsibility for hounds & the hunt.

Why is no one prepared to be a master of your area?

I only wish I knew - we have the most beautiful country. I think part of the problem is that we are desparate to keep our kennel huntsman, and all the intersted parties want to either hunt hounds themselves, or bring in their own KH.

We are only a very small pack and often struggling financially, and am concerned that however much we pull together, the strain will be too much.

Interesting times...

Sadly not....

However I was told at today's meet there will be an 'announcement' in the coming days on Mastership and the plans to move 'forward', which sounds more positive.
