I have my dettol and tea towels at the ready.pony is very scurfy so would like to take some of that put before he gets his clip.

Thanks in advance!

Hot hot hot water - You wear thin medical type gloves so you dont get chapped skin.

Capful of dettol.

Tea towel in bucket - Wring it out.,,,, properly!

You should have a damp steaming towel.
Rub in circles all over. think sports massage - not evil Masseuse from bond movie!

Top of horse downwards.

Ta da.

yep!
or TCP
I'm not talking about the floor wash! - the brown stuff found in the 1st aid section in tesco/asda/sainsburys ect!

Anything that is safe for a teenage boy/girl to soak in after rugby is fine on my horse!

Dettol Liquid contains Chloroxylenol. It kills bacteria and provides protection against germs which can cause infection and illness. Always read the label

Use diluted for antiseptic wound cleansing for cuts, grazes, bites and stings.
Cuts through scurfy grease on my Mare great!

Fantastic thank you very much!

He's really scurfy and scabby from a recent reaction so I mentioned this to my farrier. Ah he said give him a good newmarket scrub it'll sort him, wanting to appear worldy and knowledgeable I didn't ask exactly what went into it, just knew it involved dettol and tea towels, I will bring up the kettle then!!

I love dettol, not the floor cleaning stuff but the antispetic, I'm a carer and lots of my clients like a capful of dettol in their washing water so must be quite old fashioned now :) love the smell, reminds me of getting tattoos as its what they prepare your skin with :p

It's been a while but I was always taught that this should be done after exercise - so that the skin was warmed up - and that the horse should be strapped before being rubbed down.

Also plenty of rinsing the towel!

I just used dettol in my fly spray recipe: poor horse was plagued by mozzies last night. After two on this at the new yard, I discovered there is a pond/lake in the mares' field!!

Never heard of it being called a Newmarket Scrub before (and I work in racing/breeding!) but for hot towelling as I've always called it, we use the hottest water you can stand, then either baby oil, showsheen or dettol, depending on what is given added to that. Dettol is best for horses are that dirty, the showsheen or baby oil are what we tend use as we do sales horses. A small flannel is really handy, wrung out as much as possible then wiped over the coat, not making it too wet, the left for a minute or so and then body brush the coat properly and wipe with a clean stable rubber after.
