Can anyone give me an honest opinion on Renault Master boxes?

Specifically the Mark 1 version. More mechanically than anything else, I've seen one advertised, just wondering if they are more trouble than they're worth?

Horse area looks fine, was a professional conversion in 2006 and still looks new, I am more worried about the chassis - worth it or not? P reg, done about 120k. Diesel.

Thanks

I would save up for a newer shape one if you can, otherwise get someone to vet it carefully make sure its not rotten and been patched up also get it weighed... good luck

If you can get it checked over by a mechanic. Ive got a mark 1 renault master van. I absolutely adore it, its a great starter & starts full time after a winter of being stood, a bit quirky to drive (the gears are a bit strange but you do get used to them). Has it got full service history? The other thing is with conversions check the ramps as where it meets mine leaks a little bit when its wet weather. So just check how they've done the ramps. Thats if its a conversion not a coachbuilt. Oh yes and check for rotting over the wheel arches etc. but youve got to expect some depends where it is.

Have just sold my Mark 1 rm coachbuilt - it was an L reg with 150,000 on the clock.
On the whole I was very happy with it, very reliable and a good starter, and horses enjoyed travelling in it. However it did cost a lot to maintain and needed quite a lot of welding on the chassis. It cost just short of £1000 to get through last mot but my garage are very particular and leave no bolt unchecked!! Could you get a mechanic to check it out for you?
Have up graded it to a Mark 2 rm van conversion, which is 10 yrs younger and 50,000 less miles on the clock. Although it has cost me more to buy am hoping the upkeep will be cheaper, and therefore save money on the long term.....
Hope that helps!
