Horses are stuck in 24/7 at the mo as YO has banned turnout so I'm riding everyday. As work is busy it's impossible for me to get up there the past two weeks in day light so I have to use the school. Does anyone have any interesting things I can do? The lightening is really bad so no jumping and I'm throughly bored of going around in circles. I've done loads of schooling but I'm now really bored of it. Last night put some lights on and went for hack around the estate but it's not ideal. Anyone got an fun ideas please before Charm and I die of boredom!
(small school as well 20x40 max)

Loose school ours. They love it!!!! BUT make sure they are sensible and know the boundaries of the school otherwise u could lose him forever!! hehe!

Scatter poles at random on the floor, and work those into your flat work, going over them, alongside them, halting in front/over/behind them . Go down 'corridors' of two poles side by side.

Could do all that from walk, trot and canter, engaging brain in a different way

How would I loose school? Do you guys mean jump? Would it be light enough with only one flood light!
Really like the poles idea so thank you for that.
Ju - it might come to that I'm getting desperate

Have you ever done it? Is it quite safe?

loose schooling is kind of like lungeing without the rope! you can do simple transitions, trot poles, jumps, teach him to play tag.... the possibilities are endless. I did this in the autumn - started off sending her between wings, over trot poles and then built a jump. She thought it was great fun! I did put a pole in front of the gate though so that she couldn't just hang about the gate. Once she got the idea she really started playing with me, cantering if I ran, doing a cracking halt if i stopped suddenly, then looking at me going 'come on then!'. Very cool.

Well I'm still here to tell the tale

Seriously though, I would go insane, never mind the horses, if I couldnt hack in the winter which means hacking in the dark when you work full time.
Is Charm generally good to hack, even if you take her to a place she hasnt been before? I'm guessing mine are all safe cos they are used to hacking on those routes. In fact Corrie is safer in the dark than the daylight, cos she cant see the spooky things

I'd come with you though, so I'm sure she'd be fine

Don't jump none of ours when there loose schooled. Its a way for them to blow of steam and play. Flynn canters round bucking then comes to play with me. He stands looking at me in the middle and you move and he jumps and bucks then he'll stand and look at u again!!!! he does this in the summer in the field as well!!! when hes had enough he just walks up to me. Oh he also rolls alot, but then he LOVES to roll!! Never had any probs of them waitin at the gate or not movin but then ours just wanna play and don't think of it as work!!
