My lovely OH has just bought me 3 acres of land which is next door to our house so I can move my horse from the livery yard where I am currently.

The stables are being built as we speak, the problem is that my horse needs company so I have been looking for a suitable companion with little success.

My horse will be stabled in the winter at night but turned out daily in the winter, in the summer out for the majority of the time but will come in when I have lessons or competitions etc. So the little one can really either live out 24/7 or be stabled at night what ever would be best for it really.

I am looking for Ideally I little pony say up to 13HH age of no inportance who is looking for the life of reily going out for the odd hack with me on my TB and my children being led by my OH. (My children boys aged 7 & 10 can both ride), so good in traffic and around children is a must.

I have looked every where but have hit a brick wall, I can't move to my new place until I have his companion in situ.

If anyone can help me I would be so so grateful.

Sorry if anyone thinks this is advertising, I guess in some ways it is , but I'm not gaining finacially so hopefully it will be ok

Look on World Horse Welfare's website - they've got loads of companion neddies looking for kind homes!

Thanks everone for your replies.

I am in Derbyshire post code DE65, open visitation rights for current owners whenever they wanted.

I truely offer a lovely home.

Charlie24, thanks for the links I will have a look shortly.

There was someone yesterday i think saying they had a horse they were trying to get rid of as a companion

The ILPH or RSPCA would be the best bet, the great thing about them is that if anything did go wrong they remain owners of the horse. If it developed a long term illness or you circumstances changed etc they would take the horse back as soon as you wanted.

Buying or loaning is a bit of a mine field, buying often means the horse isn't suitable to be ridden, you really have to think about why as it's unliekly to pass the vetting. Loaning they could turn up and remove the horse at the drop of a hat or they could start making stupid demands (just ask Kenzo!)

Pixxie,

I'm looking for a horse that could be hacked around the lanes maybe once at the weekend , he/she will be for the majority of the time be a companion, but it would be nice if the "family" could have a walk together round the block as we call it on a summers evening.

ah ok, i only ask as the chestnut in my siggy (marley) is looking for a loving home as a companion but he cant be ridden. which is a shame as he is so good with everyone.

best of luck to you though, also try redwings horse sanctuary, they sometimes have suitable things in x

Any of the major, or more local to you, rescue centres are always looking for suitable companion homes. The only drawback could be that you do want something that can be ridden, even if not very often and not very far but it would be worth contacting as many as possible to see what they say.
