Can anyone help with a quick question about CHAPS classes please?

Hi,

So thinking of entering my first county show....

Re: chaps classes - Statement on schedule says neither owner nor horse need be registered with CHAPS to compete..

But does this mean I'd be competing HC and therefore couldn't hope to be placed??

NB classes are apparently also qualifiers for PUK championships...

(Not that I think we would be placed...but just want to understand things a bit more!)

I've entered a couple with that stipulation too. Haven't a clue - guess you'd still qualify for PUK and am fairly sure that it wouldn't equate to competing HC.

Thats what I was thinking Gamebird...but its all so bloody confusing!!

I thought if you can't qualify for chaps but could still qualify for PUK then you wouldn't be HC....?

Would it not be be one of those things where you don't have to be a member to take part, but if you qualify, you and the horse have to register to go to the final?

Well I wondered that but in that situation it usually it stipulates that you have to register within xxx days/weeks of qualifying and none of the chaps classes say that....

If you are not a member if chaps, you compete and are placed as normal regardless of whether other people are members or not.
If you want to qualify for chaps you need a member card before you enter the ring. You cannot apply after the class. The judge signs your card in the ring.
Puk however, I think they give you a card and you can register afterwards to keep that qualification.

Unless you want to go to chaps champs or hoys, chaps membership is pointless and a needless expense!

Aaaah thank you bogpony!!

I'm not bothered about chaps champs (this year at least) as I'm sure we won't get placed (its our first time!)...but I like to feel like I know the rules and it bugs me when I can't get my head round something!!
The only thing I'm confused about now, is that it says its a qualifier for PUK summer champs and they are held on 14th August (or somewhere around that date) but the show I'm doing is on 30th August so after the champs will have been held!!! Give me strength!!
