My mare gets a bit crabby sometimes and becomes a bit teesy. When I ask her to go forward in SJ or Dressage, she can become resistant and then buck to say go away. I am allowing with my reins to let her go forward and its around the time when shes in season and comes out of season. I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how I can get her to stop this and also if anyone else has experienced this?

The point is valid that her behaviour may be related to her cycles, but just to clarify, horses do not menstruate so do not experience the same discomfort as people and therefore can not be helped in the same ways. If you think this is the case, OP, you can try any of the various OTC supplements and/or have a chat with your vet about the options.

and if not season related, check you are not over bitting. I was lucky enough to hack out on a friends horse yesterday (I love this horse) and she couldn't find her normal hacking bit and stuck in another. He made it very clear quickly he did not like this bit and started bucking. I have jumped him in a much stronger bit which he was happy in!. I rode him out on washing lines and he stopped bucking. My old event mare, when trying to find a bit she liked (and I could stop her in) would make her dislike immediate and obvious by.. refusing to go forward and bucking.
